The Tigers' average attendance this season is 8,240 - which ranks ninth in the SEC and is a number based on tickets sold. In reality, the crowds have been in the 4,000 to 5,000 range at the 13,215-seat Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU has sold out only once in the past four years. Firing Brady will be costly. He has three years remaining on a five-year contract he signed after the Final Four season. LSU will be responsible for paying Brady's base salary for each of the three remaining seasons, a figure that will be in the $900,000 to $1 million range because of escalating salary clauses in the contract.
nbaone, will this have any effect on Harris or Graham? I'd hate to lose them at this stage of the game, but obviously they've gotta do what they feel is best for them. Hopefully if we can bring in a good coach (keeping my fingers crossed for Anthony Grant like about 90% of the fans out there) they'll see no reason to go anywhere else. I'm really looking forward to seeing the two of them play.
All Jokes aside some what a sad day! at (LSU) Harris- Dad name is Dennis as well.... To hold Tenn. to 47 pts did Impress some key players at the AD office// stay tune for the ride!!! guys//// By the way :LSU231::LSU231:I HAVE NOT BEEN WRONG YET RIGHT???
I have to admit, this is VERY surprising if true... while Bertman is on the way out and his power is probably declining, just yesterday he was talking about a search firm being engaged and starting up. It just doesn't make sense to me that the admin would move so quick. nbaone has a good track record though, so maybe so. A lot of folks have thought that Lombardi would be a big part of this decision, and would favor Grant or someone else. OTOH, he's known as a quick decision maker so that could be reflected here. I'm just hoping for a hiring process that mirrors the 2000 football coaching hire that gave us Saban. If Pierre looks like the best candidate, congrats to him. I just hope the decision isn't based on short term things like how the team played hard in one game and how the current players and recruits feel about him. Of course those guys are going to like him.
My source is very reliable........from what I have been told The Jr.class that's In place Now! and will be seniors next year! ALL WERE PART OF(BP)input! The kid out of Dallas Tex.(Morgan)has a great deal of respect from (coach BP) As all of the 2008 class He said ok to every last one of them.... I was told He had the final ok!! Let's say they do bring in a new Coach???? where do you place a guy who has been with your program 11/12 years? Also what do you do with Chad $$$$$ You just can't afford to lose that type of respect from your current players as well as your in coming class 2008. Somebody has to take the helm and run! with it... The school is trying to do damage control at this stage!!! DID YOU SEE WHAT ALL THE COACHES FROM THE "SEC" said about "LSU"? TRUST ME THE BULLDOGS ARE GOING TO THE PITS THIS YEAR AS WELL..... NOT GOOD AT ALL... here in Ga... I could be very wrong?? is LSU willing to pay the $$$$$$$ for a big time coach? what ever they do They can't not wait To long!! NO NIT!!!! NO NCAA!!!! Hit the road and find the best class of 2009 you can! Now! LSU WILL HAVE 5/6 slots open right??? 2009 is a big year for LSU old coach or New coach... NBAONE-
SEC- COACH,PEARL A BIT PISSED OFF!! Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl won’t ever be mistaken for a wallflower. Proof came Saturday when the Volunteers’ animated coach was asked about former LSU coach John Brady, who was fired Thursday 23 months after guiding the Tigers to the 2006 Final Four. Speaking on his postgame radio show, Pearl said the firing of coaches is “an alarming trend.” “I feel badly; I feel badly for John and I feel badly for his family,” Pearl said. “I’m embarrassed, I’m embarrassed by it. Every coach in the conference has called John and has reached out to him.” Pearl pointed out that LSU won the 2006 SEC championship and reached the game’s biggest stage just two seasons ago — before losing Tyrus Thomas and Glen Davis to the NBA and Tasmin Mitchell to an injury early this season. “Here’s the thing: We used to get fired and they would come up with stuff like, ‘Well, attendance wasn’t very good, and they weren’t graduating enough guys, and a couple of guys got in trouble,’ ” Pearl said. “Now, we just say he didn’t win enough games. Well, if he won the (SEC) championship two years ago, that’s a standard that us as coaches have to be extremely alarmed with. I mean, what in the world? So, it’s embarrassing … embarrassing.”
I do have some sympathy for the current players, and they are LSU athletes so I certainly support them and want them to have success, both on the court and later in life. Having said that, again I have to say that I badly want this hire to be focused on the long term success of the program, not appeasing the current players or recruits. If a quality coach is hired, most of the current team and recruits will come to respect him. Look at the women's team; while it's obviously a little different situation in some ways, Chatman's players definitely had a lot of love and respect for her and the staff, similar to the men for Pierre. But look at the situation now with Chancellor, it didn't take long for the women to take to him. There should be one goal for LSU: hire the best man for the job. Especially in basketball, short term considerations should not be given undue consideration because it's much easier to turn a program around with a couple of recruiting classes. Hanging on to something familiar because you're afraid to lose some of what you have - especially when what you have hasn't been that successful - is just shortsighted.
