Interesting sideline story... Ah, it really makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes with some of these kids and families.

Look GTown is a very good school in many ways, and honestly, looking at our team right now, with what we've added, I'm less heartbroken about losing Monroe--you see how CJohnson & ARandolph might look with "Bobo" Morgan in the middle, and I'd honestly hate to see Johnson as a senior lose time to Monroe if he doesn't want to be here. But, clearly, mom, let the kid make his own decisions here... (As of today, he's still listed by Rivals as committed but not signed... :hihi: ).

Also probably makes sense to top off this thread with the hoops rankings as they come out. Rivals ranks our class #20, and #5 in the SEC (with the SEC being the top recruiting conference... surprising? :yelwink2: ).

I think that ranking is a little low, but I'm happy with it b/c it fills a very high need. Big men, Big men. And, you can see several of those guys contributing right away. Morgan obviously down low for muscle. Graham could look really good as a wing defender and slash to the goal/rebounder on this team. Randolph and Johnson (plus about 15-20 pounds each) next year could be very imposing along side Morgan. Honestly, I'll say I didn't think that the summer posts about CJ improving were possible, but if CJ puts on about 15-20 pounds this year and next could play himself into a NBA spot.

I still contend that LSU needed to sign a guard this year. Not sure that I would say leave Warren or Harris out of the mix (seeing Green now on the court pitching in 15 minutes per makes me sort of glad we did sign him last year)--as Warren probably gives you another high energy body at least to practice against early on and Harris is probably a "Chris Johnson-like" project but could be playing much sooner for the Tigers.

You look at the impact of Bo Spencer this year, and you wonder what other nice guard we might have ignored. I am not worried with Bo, GT, TM, MT, for next year, but after this senior class leaves? You've got Bo (Jr), TMG (Fr), Brandon Mitchell (Fr) and Alex Farrer (Sr). We're going to have a young backcourt.

:geaux: :bball: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. THE LEARNING CONTINUES... VS. AZ STATE TODAY 1 P.M. CT.

So, even in a slow FB time, hoops isn't getting the LOVE on the boards! :)

Just thought I'd post this little tid bit on here about yesterday's North Texas vs. Texas hoops game.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=273390251

A couple of little LSU implications/tangents in this story line. Well, first Johnny Jones, as folks may know, coaches at N.Texas and took the Mean Green to the NCAAs last year. His team is regarded as a "well-coached" team despite it's conference and stature. Some folks in Austin were actually worried about the game, i.e., "watch out for N.Texas", b/c the question was would Texas come out and be up for a hard nosed, scrappy team like N.Texas after beating UCLA. Well, they did and although the score looks relatively close, it wasn't that close.

That being said, why is this on a recruiting thread? Well, looking at the box score, you can see to LA guards duking it out on hard court. Obviously, every one knows about the much ballyhooed DJ Augustin who turned down LSU to go to Texas, and is pretty much establishing himself as one of the top 2 or 3 PGs in college today. But, probably less folks followed the fact that Josh White, formerly All-district from CLA in BR, is now playing for Johnny Jones. He scored 28 points last night, with 2 assists and 1 TO. Some questioned his size and ability to play in the big leagues, but he torched Texas.

What's my point? While I've always given Brady cred for some of his recruiting classes, I've been critical of the staff's ability to sniff out, recruit and land guards--esp local ones. Now, I think they talked to Josh White and perhaps the White family is a little anti-LSU, but this is just another point of improvement for our staff. First, guard play is so critical to your team (Texas loses Durant and now they're better). Second, LA produces some pretty nice underrated guards every year. Now, I'm not going to harp on Brady too bad, b/c at least he signed Bo Spencer last year (and there were a lot of folks bashing Bo's ability on here  ). I don't know if the staff chose to go with Bo over Josh, b/c of his height, but both guards are pretty decent. But, here we are signing again 4 forwards in '07-08. In '08-09, we've got Tommy Mason-Griffin and Brandon Mitchell, and I really look forward to seeing TMG and BM play. In '09-10, we've got PG Langston Galloway right out of CLA (again), and you bet Brady's on him like white on rice. I'd love to see LSU sign this kid. Hopefully these recruits also see that they CAN make a difference in LSU's offense, like Bo has.

:geauxtige :bball: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BEAT NOVA.
