Is that a smart thing to do? Obviously, we don't want to scare Tommy Mason-Griffin, and I know that the staff will be going hard after Baton Rouge point guard Langston Holloway in 2010, who is supposed to be a high major guy.
Like I said, I don't know anything other than his name has recently popped on Tigerbait--don't know if the staff is rushing him, or if he's just a recruit listing LSU. Personally, I never think it's a bad idea to sign a good PG in every class. In this case, Fisher, if he's a good LA guard prospect, might be a good safety signing to (1) balance out a class of all frontline players, and (2) fortify your class with a LA player (remember, if we lose Monroe, we've signed no LA players). I've never seen the kid play, but he sounds also like a "true" point who would give LSU a different look at point with the smaller quicker point. Does he scare off TMG? I would say no, b/c TMG is a legit player and I would guess Tommy has confidence in himself. TMG will have a chance to compete in '09 when Temple, Martin and Thornton are all gone--we've got only Spencer in there. I say, if we lose out on Monroe, and Fisher is a LA kid looking to stay in LA (he's primarily listing LA schools), he's probably a good signing for backcourt depth in the future. Obviously, I've never seen the kid play, so this is purely conjecture...
Coach-Brady and Coach Dollar were back in ATL GA. They stop by Mundy Mills High school (Dennis Harris) check Up! on him And will do the same with Dunnwoody High school (Graham) On Wen- Had lunch with the GM of ATL CELTICS Downtown.... get ready class- 2009
Greg Monroe to Georgetown. Looks like Morgan will be our guy. Rivals said that if LSU didn't get Monroe, they wouldn't spend the last scholarship. I hope the staff decides otherwise and pursues Rashanti Harris, Wesley Witherspoon, Justin Brownlee, and possibly Chris Singleton?
Brady and co. should not be getting a pass on losing Monroe. O well, whatever gets him run out of town fastest.... but knowing him, he'll put together a NCAA tournament appearance this year to save his a$$.
Ouch. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/10533457.html Double-whammy day... LSU loses to Kentucky and we get the news about Monroe. I can't say that I'm too surprised as I kind of always thought LSU had less than a 50% chance of landing him. I can't completely blame him either... G-town, with him coming in on Midnight Madness broadcast on ESPN, lots of basketball history and fan support and JTIII who seems to know how to utilize the "point forward" concept. Morgan could be the centerpiece of this class, and we know that LSU loves the prototypical big man down low to work with. I'm wondering how much Monroe would have helped or hurt in Morgan's decision. On the one hand, Morgan doesn't have to share the ball with another premium big man, on the other hand, I don't know how much he was counting on a top PF to go with him. In any case, we've got (at least) Anthony Randolph to play along aside Morgan. Now is when you're lamenting the fact that we couldn't really recruit Terrance Henry, Chris Singleton, etc. as hard as we were waiting for Monroe... Ah well. I agree with 'Chokes. Given the huge number of spots we have open in '09, I'd like to sign another kid in '08 still. Even if it's an Arthur Fisher or local kid that wants to come to LSU and contribute... Brandon Moore for example, still on the board?
I knew you'd jump on this... and we had our debate on this before. Joe Mcknight to USC is ok for Miles, but losing Monroe, who was pursued by every big program in the country is some how some big knock on Brady...
How many did Coach John Thompson recruit/buy from NO during the Dale Brown era? How many great basketball players from NO have played for LSU? Randy Livingston is the only one I recall at the moment and there was a brother connection.
Well, all eggs are in Morgan's basket. If we lose out on him, too (which I'm thinking we will at this point), then there is definitely need for concern, and we will probably end up frantically trying to sign some no-names like last year.
