Well, according to Scout, it looks like Morgan may be listening to me. The Dallas center reportedly has narrowed his list, and LSU is amongst the leaders along with Alabama and Kansas. Of course, this is just what Scout reports... but, I'm liking it. If we can land Monroe and Morgan, our frontline signings would be tremendous, with a slasher drive to the hoop power forward and a classic big man with good hands and hard to keep out of the paint. I hope these kids are talking to each other....

Has LSU ever beaten Duke in a head to head recruiting battle? If Duke really wants Mr. Monroe They will get him... LSU {brady} should offer him & save him a scolarship & concentrate on the other Louisiana guys. Brady or Coach K... Not a hard decision really. all that being said - I sure hope we get him -Go Tigers!!~

Using that logic Brady should have refused to take the floor with our freshman dominated team to compete with Duke a couple years ago. All the Brady bashers were sure we would be embarrassed.
    In head to head competition:
    Brady-1
    Coach K-0

Makes you wonder who is Morgan better friends with AR or Darrel Arthur. Can't help but dream, front line of Morgan, Monroe and AR.

Agreed. Based upon internet blogs by Jayhawk followers, it appears that Morgan is good friends with Darrell, and has met and talked to him several times during this recruitment process. That has Kansas fans thinking that they lead. I worry about their friendship, as well as the fact that Kansas is a basketball school with rabid fan support, unlike LSU. That being said, Morgan probably plays sooner at LSU, and LSU has probably a "better" track record getting big men to the NBA. I just think that Bill Self is a little bit more of a recruiter less of a coach. His teams under achieve and are soft, and arguably do not develop their players. Now, Darrell Arthur obviously picked Kansas over LSU b/c he thought he had a better chance to play and start at Kansas over Big Baby et al. He was probably right. But, things may be different for Morgan. If he's friends with Randolph, that is our favor, since they're complementary players.

All this said, it's going to be tough out recruiting the Jayhawks, and LSU fan support this year will be key for recruiting the big names.

Well, this "recruiting battle" has historically not played out too often. The kind of kid that Duke recruits is fairly particular, a certain mindset and academic pedigree, in addition to the talent. In actuality, not too many LA players have gone to Duke, although you can count Chris Duhon as a player that LSU "lost" to Duke. That was smack in the darkest days of LSU's basketball.

However, I wouldn't discount the selling points of LSU over Duke. First, Duke has never been a school known for showcasing a big man game. If you look at their bigs over the years, they have "underachieved", with maybe the exception of Brand and Laettner, who were drafted high, you have McD A-As like Josh McRoberts, Boozer, Shavelik, etc. who probably didn't help their cause by playing in Coack K's system, because of draft position. Never has Coach K taken a kid like Tyrus, a no-name recruit, and made him a lottery pick. LSU has a pretty good record for "coaching up" bigs.

As for Coach K vs Brady, that's certainly something that LSU doesn't have--as well as the national championships, history, fans--but that's stating the obvious. If a kid wants the UNC, Duke, Kentucky basketball "lore", he probably isn't going to LSU anyway. But, if Greg wants to bring something special to the state of LA, have a great chance to develop into a NBA player, play in front of family and friends, go to a school that has final four history, like Semoine, Big Baby, Stromile, etc., LSU has a chance.

What's also interesting is that none of J'mison Morgan or Chris Singleton is looking seriously at Duke...

Well, J'Mison Morgan had his list officially updated on Rivals as well, LSU included.

Not to mention the fact that Monroe will probably be one-and-done anyway, so why not just play at a unique school like LSU, where you can star, have plenty enough TV games, have a trusty sidekick in Anthony Randolph, etc. etc. etc.

Besides, doesn't Coack K request that his players stay for their JR. years? Also, Greg has a lesser chance of being the star on Duke as he does on LSU.
