First off, I don't think ANYONE including the staff is thinking they wouldn't rather have Randolph. He's rated as high as 8 in the country in various rags I've seen, and as you say is true NBA swing forward of today. 6'10" athletic can play inside and out and jump out the gym. Think Tyrus with more outside moves and shot...

BUT, until he visits and gets some cajun hospitality, he's still a long shot. Early odds are he's leaning to Texas, but I recently read on the Hoya board that he's also interested in playing for JTIII, and he also visits Kansas after he sees LSU (where he'll no doubt talk to Darrell Arthur). So, clearly we have to prepare like we won't get him.

I imagine noone's slacking on recruiting Randolph. Hopefully he'll see through all of the big school recruiting hype and see that of the schools he's picking only LSU and Texas have had recent success getting big men into the lottery, and honestly, LSU develops bigs better than the rest.

    i think it will be:

    Tack (PG)
    Temple (SG)
    Tas (SF)
    Baby (C)
    Lazare (PF)

and the key movers will be Temple vs Mason and Lazare vs. Rolle. Out of deference to GT and Lazare (and I think Brady is old school in this way), I think you have your starter from the FF start (supposedly, GT's been on a regimen of 400-500 jumpshots a day, so if he's got an improved shot, he's going to be valuable as lock down d guy and guy that knows your system) and your only senior who's been loyal to your program and who's underrated but dependable start, and you have Mason and Rolle come off the bench at least initially as injecting some athleticism and spark off the bench. But, depending on the match ups, Brady has the option of going "small" with Tas' playing PF and sliding Mason in as a starter at SF, or going big and having Rolle play with Lazare and Tas' maybe playing SG. Nice problems to have.

Remember Martin does get eligible until late December, so he won't be starting anytime soon. He'll get good backup minutes to Temple and Mason though, and depending on how Tack is doing, Martin could play some point too.

In any case, it's going to be exciting watching the personnel flexibility that the staff will have this year!

Don't forget that Temple may actually be a candidate for the PG spot. He played there a fair bit last year, and a 6'5" PG presents some interesting mismatch possibilities. It also mitigates his shooting weakness. Defensively, GT's length made a huge difference on our perimeter D last year and I think Brady noticed that. If GT can handle the point, and Mason/Martin at SG with Tack filling in as a change of pace, burst of speed (at either PG or SG) and Voogd a steadier presence at backup PG, we have a pretty capable and deep backcourt along with a very solid, if not overly deep, frontcourt.

Something that scares me about Desmond Hendrix and i hope it's a misprint, Tigerrag list his ppg last year as 5.0.

I tried to hit up the WVC b-ball page but it wasn't listed. Does anyone have anymore info on this guy?

Well, I think that you're right. Based on an article on Rivals, the kid averaged a little over 5 pts and around 6.5 boards as a freshman JUCO. That said, he's projected to be one of the top JUCO centers this year moving on. What his new Wabash head coach said in the article was that the kid was a great physical specimen, but needed to work on his offensive aggressiveness. He also said, however, that the guards on last year's team perhaps did not get him the ball nearly enough. I guess it may be fair to say that the kid's a little bit of a project, but will have another year of JUCO ball to refine his game.

Ok, as we near the stretch for the November 1 signing date, here are some quick observations/questions:

    1. On the offer front, it appears from what I could tell from Rivals/Scout, we've offered Martavius Adams, but not Garrett Green or Anthony Randolph. I'm assuming that we haven't offered Green, b/c we didn't know if he was a top priority and, we haven't offered Randolph, b/c we didn't know how seriously he's taking us until he visits with us this weekend.

    2. Anyone know how the visit went for Green and Adams this weekend?

    3. If we end up not getting Adams, what is our best fall back position? Obviously, we're saving an offer for Randolph if he gives us good vibes next weekend. But, there are some interesting choices for the staff if we land neither Adams or Randolph. We have a center (Hendrix) and a shooting forward committed (Wright). Do you make sure you get a LA kid, like a 3 star SF Marcus Simmons, who's supposedly an "academic risk" but he's taking his ACT (I thought this kid actually played SG, and he's the fourth best LA player very interested in LSU--got an offer from Miss St. and he claims he did from LSU (rivals does not list him as having an offer)), or a Bo Spencer who's another Rivals 3-star PG? Do you extend an offer to Green, thinking here's a chance to land a kid from CA and a good hoops pipeline school? Or, do you hold off on any more '07 offers, b/c you've got another chance to load up in '08, with Greg Monroe, Olu Ashaolu, and go at it again?

Thoughts from the peanut gallery and armchair hoops recruiters?

You have to go after Bo Spencer. If there is a D-1 PG prospect in your city you have to go after him.

We can't have enough guards right now.

Does anyone know about that UNO kid who was rumored to transfer to LSU after his degree program got dropped - McCaleb?

Well, we just got a new walk-on for this season - Greg Terrebonne. I think David Fleshman quit the team.
