sounds like the staff has done its homework. what we need is a quick PG that has the ability to create. the shooting can come later.

Well, you guys have scooped me. Thanks. Donnell looks like an interesting recruit b/c he does seem like someone who would help us. Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere else other than Scout that even connects him to LSU.

But, if he's really comparing us to Kent State, then, we might have a chance. I think the pro is that he's a 6'4" PG who does seem to pass first, which is what Brady seems to like. At 6'4" I wonder how "quick" he is, but his line shows he's a 12+ ppg, 5+ apg, 6+ rpg, 2.2 spg kind of guy which tells you he's a well rounded guard. Some word of caution though... Garrett Temple had a similar line coming out of high school. BUT, I do like the Beverly pick for a couple of reasons. One, he's not a Jr when he starts (not a JUCO), so presumably he's in your system longer and doesn't immediately put pressure on him to compete for minutes with Martin, Temple, etc. and is a bridge to the Tommy Mason Griffin days. Two, he comes from a competitive market in L.A., and the "qualitative" scouting seems to suggest he's a team leader and has taken over his team who is leading their division, i.e., "winner" (but then again, that's what they said about Ben Voogd).

In any case, I'll be watching what happens in earnest. It appears that the staff may be out there handing out offers to available PGs. I don't know if I'd back off Thornton (his pros are he's got Baton Rouge connections, is a proven scorer--and despite Deek's comments I say adding scoring threat on this team is not a bad thing--and probably helps you right away), but clearly we're not waiting for him to make his decision.

Alright, so now we choose bandwagons... I'll take Thornton. If he's good enough for Kansas and Kansas St, he's good enough for LSU.

And, he won't threaten TommyMG's commitment to LSU, because Marcus will be gone by the time TMG comes here.

Also: Us or Kent State?

I guess he's hesitant about leaving Cali for a loung trek to Louisiana.

He can come with Garret 'Waste of a Scholly' Green. :)

Ok, I couldn't figure out why he was coming up as a junior... these are last year's numbers. Here are his senior stats that are available...

The good news is the kid's obviously shown an ability to take on a larger role... his scoring's up (17 ppg), his assists are up (6.9 apg), and his shooting percentages are up. So, this may seem like a uncovered gem, if we can close. He's listed as a wing here, but clearly he leads his teams in assists and leads his division in various categories. Garrett Green is our L.A. connection... perhaps there's a silver lining in signing a kid out of L.A. after all? :)

what does scout mean by this? "Hails from a high school with a reputation for producing late bloomers. "

the coaches put salt peter in the water? or, they cant coach, so when the player gets to college (and a real coach like cjb--i know many of you will like that) they blossom.

also, anyone know what it means on the recruiting pages when schools are listed but with "no interest" beside them?

I'm starting to feel good about Beverly. The more I read about him the more I feel he's a step in the right direction. It sounds like he can handle the ball and he wants to get the ball to his team. Doesn' t look like his 3 point % is that high but I think the other recruits we have coming in will address that issue.

Agree. This seems like a targeting that is a smart, uncovering of a Tyrus Thomas kind of potential, "for need" pick. I say this b/c here's a three star (but "late bloomer") kid, who may be a "true" point (i.e., actually plays the point and is scouted as playing the point), is 6'4" (gives you the option of the tall point), is athletic (not just tall, but quick), is from CA (I'll take a mid-tier guy from this market over someone from a small market), does various things for you (has a good assist to turnover ratio, gets steals and rebounds), says the right things (talks about running the team, etc.), and, actually is interested in the Tigers! Let's hope that Donnell realizes that LSU has been so desparately missing a PG... and that he could make his way up the food chain quickly if he comes in and plays hard.

Well, at least that's what I optimistically glean from today's Advocate article on Beverly as well as other recruits...

    http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/6351387.html  :)

Despite my mood on the Pokey thread, what this article should tell you is ... I've been saying that Brady will ultimately be judged on the talent level of his program and that is what's critical the next few years. We are still in on some pretty decent names in the horizon. Thing could very quickly bounce back after this year, my friends.

:geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU CAN BE A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. DO YOUR PART.
