http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=586122 Heard these reports, too. I'd be thrilled if he is. LSU's first highflyer that isn't a PF or C. We'll know soon enough when we see him try to take on CJ during the dunk contest this Friday.
Yeah i saw mason play a lot throughout his fresh and sophmore year at marquette and the kid is a pure athlete....hopefully his outside shot has gotten better since then but one thing he doesnt lack is the ability to straight up out leap people and plus he was marquettes leading shot blocker those two years as well.
Just so we can (soon) close the chapter on the '07-08 men's hoops recruiting class, I thought for some of the folks that perhaps are still doubting the recruiting braintrust of Brady, Pierre and Nikita, they might appreciate our class a little more after picking up Street & Smith's recently released college hoops rag. Anthony Randolph (rated 5-star by Rivals and Scout) picks up All-American honors, as a fourth teamer (top 20 recruit), and rated above Deandre Jordan (another TX big man who committed to Texas A&M over LSU). Expect to watch Randolph in the McD's AA game this year. And, more importantly, even at 5+ pts per game last year, SSmith's JUCO rankings has Desmond Hendrix as a second teamer All-Juco "Super Sophomore" and rates Wabash Valley College as the 3rd best JUCO team this year. Of Hendrix SSmith says "Sparks' [WVC's coach] best player is 6-10 Desmond Hendrix, who has only two years of organized hoops under his belt but may have an NBA career in his future." DJ Wright doesn't get SSmith pub b/c he plays in Canada, but I would gather that the 3-star recruit would be on the High Honorable Mention list if he played in the US. The only "reach" appears to be Garrett Green, who did not appear on any of the HS Seniors' lists--but, I think the braintrust must of saw some things in the AAU summer circuit that they liked in Green. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I see the kid in action. All in all, look for LSU to be back near the top of the SEC (perhaps the nation) in next year's recruiting ratings for this class. For those that will want to follow the "outta state" vs. "in state" debate, watch for the future success of LA recruits that LSU either didn't get in on or passed over, SSmtih High Honorable Mentions in LA include: Kevin Branch (Reserve Christian), LaDarius Dunn (Excelsior Christian--Baylor commit), Maurice Foster (Cox), Marcus Simmons (Peabody), Donte Walker (St. Louis Catholic), Christian Wall (John Ehret) and Leonard Washington (Washington Marion--football recruit). Elgin Bailey, a LSU recruit, rated in just at the "Honorable Mention" level. And, as for the future of LSU hoops recruiting, it's a testament to what's going on here, when you look at SSmith's "Underclassmen High Honorable Mention" recruits already very interested in LSU: Olu Ashaolu, J'Covan Brown, Greg Monroe, Ray Shipman and Tom Mason-Griffin (only a SOPH, and a '09 PG commitment) make the list (to someone's point above, Mason Griffin actually backs up Jai Lucas on their Houston AAU team and is a pass-first PG, who was the first freshman to ever start on that team). So, that's it on '07's recruits from me... We turn our attention to the hoops kick-off festivities this FRIDAY NIGHT at the PMAC. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. PACK THE PMAC.
thanks for all of the news and tid bits you have been reporting TGer'nLHornLand, its good to see some love for lsu hoops around here....cant wait for friday night!
I bet the 07 class turns out better than we think. Wright only has 3 stars by his name but he's been said to be the best player in Canada and other colleges took notice of him when he did well in AAU. AAU being the playground of the better high school basketball players. The same has been said about Green(a 2 star guy), he did ok during the season, then made a big name for himself this summer during AAU games (AAU better b-ball plalyers). AR needs no prase! The only question mark is Hendrix, but I say if you're going to take a chance on someone take it on someone who's 6'10 260! Even if he sucks you can put him in the game to foul the hell out of someone! But let's hope he does ok. As far as not getting a pg, I think we'll be ok. It sounds like Tack is getting better and I saw a post early this summer that talked about T.Martin doing nothing but working on pg skills since joining the Tigers. Voogd well he can only get better. Well like others have said no more from me about 07 lets get this year started!
Is there a signing day for basketball recruits? If so, when? I'm pretty confident that all these guys will end up here, just curious.
Apparently, someone on Rivals is claiming that we might get yet another 07 commit. It's another JUCO PF/C named Quintin Thornton. http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=24863 How will this affect Greg Monroe, if Thornton is really headed to LSU?
