I think so, but don't quote me on that. Everything that I had been reading was that John and Butch wanted 3-4 signees in this year's class. And, if this class holds true to form, we'll see four signees. This is our max, b/c as I see it, we've got 11 scholarship folks right now, with a max of 13. We lose Darnell and I think the assumption is we lose Big Baby after this year. So, we sign 4 on top of 9, to make 13. Don't ask me what happens if Big Baby stays. What's interesting will be the recruiting year of '08. My math shows 2 schollies then available with the graduation of Tack and Mason. Assuming no other early departures, that leaves us just a few schollies for next year's recruiting class, and that means we'll need to be pickier than we were this year. Obviously, the big target is Greg Monroe--he's been offered already. And, sources have also stated that we've offered Garvin Hunt, another Bahamas big man. That doesn't leave us a lot of flexibility for Olu Aloashu (sp?), J'Covan Brown or Ray Shipman, some talented guard/swing forwards that are high on LSU. Not sure what's going to play out in '08. So, there may be some that question the signing of one or two of the guys in this '07 class. In any case, I think we can say with some degree of excitement, that LSU is building some very interesting recruiting momentum coming off the final four. Four recruits, all from outside the state and all leading to positive momentum in recruiting hotbeds where LSU was not a household basketball name. Let's give some props to our men's basketball staff. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. PACK THE PMAC.
I'm praying for Greg Monroe and J'Covan Brown (if he can get his grades a lot better). Certainly wouldn't be sad if we opted for Shipman over Brown. And as much as I reaaaaaaaally want to get Monroe, we have a large number of highly ranked frontcourt options for 2008.
It may be time to close this thread and start a '08 one... But, perhaps we should wait until early November after the ink dries. I hear you on Monroe. He's a stud and an all around power forward if I've seen one. He can drive, play d, and he's fluid and quick off the floor--plus, he's a lefty. Ultimately, from what I've seen, I think he'll complement AR very well. I think AR is ultimately going to gravitate a little further away from the basket--although I think the first thing LSU does is get him some toughness, have him bulk up and teach him to refine his post game. AR will get to develop that alongside Magnum down low. And, when Monroe gets here D ), AR will be able to play inside out on the wing with Monroe. WOW! Two 6'10" long lean NBA prospects, one who can hit the three and the other who can really play down low. As for the guards, according to Rivals, I see J'Covan lists Texas and Duke as his leaders, whereas Ray is high on LSU. J'Covan probably brings more PG skills to the table than Shipman, so I can see why you prefer him, but Shipman looks like a real athletic scorer. '08 could be a pretty impressive year if the cards fall right. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. PACK THE PMAC.
Tigerbait has this guy listing LSU as one of his schools of intrest http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=46609 tigerbait says he's 360 but tigerrag says hes closer to 310. If hes mobile and we don't get GM, should we go after him? As far as not getting a pg this year maybe the coaching staff knows something about Tack that we don't. It's seems as if they're thinking we have Tack for 2 more years, lets not go after another pg untill 2009. Maybe it will work, we've got a good class for 2007 and I can't wait for this year to start. I heard Mason can jump out the gym!!!!!!!!!!!!
That mammoth would certainly be a godsend should Brady continue his half-court execution. However, if we wanted to go with the modern, fast-paced style of play, go for Kenny Kadji, Greg Monroe, Brandon Moore, or Jamychel Green.
This is one of my last posts on the 2008 class until the 07 papers are signed and shipped. This class might turn out fairly easy for Brady, as the 2008 class is loaded with dynamic duos in the south. Here are some: 1. Greg Monroe and Brandon Moore - Greg, as we all should know by now, does it all. The whole package. Brandon Moore is athletic, and has some serious hops. He is a notoriously relentless rebounder. 2. Ray Shipman and Kenny Kadji - Kenny is a lot like Brandon Moore, but with a more polished post game. Ray is a power guard. He's built well, and powers himself into the lane for easy buckets. His 3pointer is coming along, and when it does, he'll certainly be in the running for a 5th star. 3. Steve Tchiengang and J'Covan Brown - J'Covan shoots effortlessly from the NBA range. He has an array of flashy moves to get around defenders. He passes extremely well, and can drive efficiently. Steve can shoot the 3 well for a big man, and he has some good post moves.
