i was getting really excited with him still being there and the saints six picks away from being on the clock... would've been nice to see him in the black and gold... he has great natural football instincts and a nose for the football like sharper and ed reed without their size...

He's better off getting far away from his old friends . . .

Just read up on the Cards a little. Suddenly, the NFC West has become the best division in the NFL after being ridiculed only a couple of years ago. It would appear to be tough for the Cards to break through. Their offense was horrible last year but has some hope with the new coaching staff and Carson Palmer. Pretty good targets with Fitz, Roberts (that really quick slot guy), Floyd, and the lightnin fast Swope.

Their D was 12th in total yards last year so is already a solid unit. Peterson, Mathieu, and Minter are the most interesting combination of LSU players on the same side of the ball than I can ever remember. I want to say Peterson got a few snaps on offense last year although not sure. I'd put he and/or Mathieu in a few plays each game even if mostly decoys.

Something tells me the Cards Def/ST will be a popular fantasy football pick for many south Louisiana drafts in a few months.

I somewhat agree... i say somewhat because if he doesn't change, it won't be difficult for him to associate himself with the same kind of people there in zona...

Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch on the two opposite views on TM7 by Jon Gruden and 71-year-old Bill Polian (Vice Chairman of the Colts from 1998 to 2011, GM of the Panthers from 1994-1997, and GM of the Bills from 1986-1993) during the coverage of the 2013 NFL Draft

I think I find Polian's refusal to sugarcoat his opinion incredibly refreshing. After Wingo asked the former Bills and Colts GM if LSU's Tyrann Mathieu was worth the risk, here is what Polian said: "No, in a word. This is a guy who is a nickel back, who is a return man, who has a deficiency covering man to man and who is speed deficient. On top of that, he has proven to be irresponsible and continues in my mind to show some degree of irresponsibility. That makes him a poor teammate and a poor risk. I don't know why you would want him at any price but if you were going to take a chance on him, it certainly wouldn't be tonight [Round 2] ... We would take him off the board because in our opinion, based on our philosophy, we did not want a player with this level of irresponsibility and this level of disrespect for his teammates and his team because that is what he has shown failing these tests."

I think how Gruden discussed Mathieu gave great insight into how a coach thinks versus a general manager and also Gruden as a broadcaster. "There is another corner -- I just want to remind you, Mel -- his name is the Honey Badger," Gruden said, after Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant was picked at No. 22 by the Falcons. "Don't forget about him. I still think he is the best corner in this draft. I know he has issues and the issues are very, very serious. But this kid can tackle, he's a ball magnet, he's a dynamic punt returner, he's a dominating player. Somebody needs to help the Honey Badger off the mat. Bring him back into football and let him become all he can be."

I think I loved it when Kiper pushed back after Gruden sold the soap hard for Mathieu. Kiper calmly explained there was no way Mathieu was going to be taken prior to the end of Round 2. After Kiper concluded, Gruden gave Kiper a shove and smiled. It was excellent television, and not the kind of BS debate that the First Take crew is trying to champion across the ESPN networks.

    ...

I think Berman directly addressing Tebow when the Jets came up at No. 13 -- including suggesting he could go to Canada and find success -- was laugh-out-loud comedy given Tebow was an absolute non-story for this draft. Smartly, Gruden and Kiper didn't bite.

Remember when Trindon Holliday played at LSU? I recall watching him play on his size, relative to the two front lines, essentially "disappearing" before the snap, then breaking away to do his thing, while the D-line collectively said, "where the heck did that guy come from?"

Hoping that Tyrann will confound the Cards' opponents this season in similar fashion. We'll maybe call him "The Cactus Badger."* He has a way of getting noticed--really fast--by the opposing line.

And I get to wear two hats again this season: LSU & AZ Cards. GEAUX Cards! Think I will have to introduce jambalaya & sweet tea at the T-gates this year!

*I claim firsts on this if it sticks!

TM (#32, his new pro number) looks to play safety. Anyone remember the only game he started FS at LSU, he led the team in tackles with 8 and also had 2 FF, one he returned for 19 yards. In this same game he also returned a punt for 92 yds. and a TD. A total of 3 punts for 115 yds. Busy guy that day.

    That's what I'm sayin,' LSUDad!

Any time that an LSU guy can do well--is a good thing for LSU!

    GEAUX TIGERS/GEAUX CARDS!
