All coaches make the wrong decision about 200 times in the course of a season, sometimes no one even notices, other times it cost his team a game. No one has a crystal ball including coaches, and we as fans sometimes have no idea the reasoning behind the coaches thinking. As for JR, like a good program should do, it was kept inside the confines of the locker room, but in my mind Saban must have had a damn good reason for playing Flynn first. As for your other points I contested, you really should look stuff up before throwing examples out there that are absolutely in correct.
I still love Nick Saban and never will forget what he did for LSU football. I felt like a liberal when he left us but have soon recovered from my emotions and have gone my merry way. Nick, you still have a special place in my heart, thank you for 5 wonderful years. I'm thankful I got to go to an LSU home game before he left. I wish him all the luck in Miami and will root for the Dolphins similar to when Dan Marino was there and they were my team, always loved LSU's and the Dolphins colors also.
Yo SabanFan: If criticism is for such small people? then why do we even have a sports message board for? Apparently there will be some time in someone's life where we will disagree with something someone does. I do have to admit that I liked the quotes though
I have no problem with criticism. Hell, it's what I do for a living. But, criticism is only useful if the critic is qualified to critique.
My problem with this Saban thing really has nothing to do with Coach Saban personally it has to do with this whole coaching profession. Contracts mean zip, diddally squat, nada, nothing, etc... That is my problem. I have no problem with any one using LSU or anybody else for that matter to better themselves. To take that next step to better themselves, but when you sign an agreement to be somewhere for five years your word should be your bond. Coach Saban has no room to talk when athletes commit to be a part of your program and back out. While the players did that they did nothing different than what he did. I do not believe that Coach Saban will be as successful as he was in college because of the environment he is surrounded by. Coach Saban is involved in an environment that he "SAID" he did not like being a part of. There, that is all I have to say about this.
It really is pathetic how much of 'a piece of paper' a contract has become. Terrell Owens was traded to the Ravens, and he literally QUIT until they GAVE him to the Eagles... Coaches like Saban and even worse, Petrino do what they want, when they want... Loyalty right now is just at an all-time minimum
Schools have little loyalty to coaches as well. Hell, we fired a pretty decent football coach 25 years ago because he only won 7 or 8 games every year. And we have people today wanting to fire our current baseball coach because he hasn't won a NC yet. It's a two way street...
Are you sure that Florida was ranked in 2003 when they beat us? I just watched that game recently, and I don't remember any talk of Florida being ranked at the time.
I think SF and I agree on our opinion of Nick Saban. Let me sum up my view in a couple of points. * All LSU fans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to NS. Only Charlie McClendon is more beloved among LSU football coaches. Paul Dietzel is LSU's third most beloved football coach. * Sure, we hated to see him go. Sure, it happened at Xmas time, and, it was inconvenient, BUT . . . that's all in the past and none of it is an issue any longer. Any bitter or hard feelings felt then are gone now. We wish Nick the best, and we hope that LSU will always be his favorite college football team. How'd I do, SF?
