here is an opening for your next joke. I am not even watching it. I am watching Deep Sea Salvage. Will watch it during the day tomorrow. did it run over? I set it to record an extra hour.
What did I hear Joe Morgan say last night? I think it was something to the effect of "7 of the 8 participants in last years derby saw their 2nd half numbers go down" So much for that myth eh Tirk?
it was Steve Phillips. But what they fail to mention is that everyone not in the derby's #'s go down in the 2nd half, too, just because you're in the back end of the season and are fatigued. Hence how the only player in last year's derby who's HR #'s went up was Longoria, who was a mid-season callup.
obviously the people that were leading the league arent going to keep that pace. it has nothing to do with being tired from the derby - lots of these guys are young and feel normal after a day or two. baseball numbers wackos dont use common sense in their formulas.
no still a myth. as clair alluded, its past the halfway point and anyone participating are the top first half players. regression always follows and numbers will even out. the myth is that participating in the derby messes you up. hogwash. edit: damn tb3 beat me to it. see, we are a logical lot here. at least us baseball folks. also, we're 9 games past the halfway point for some teams. the allstar break is never the halfway point.
true. plus there is a lot more pressure from here on out....among many other things that dont include the derby.
