Actually been a problem for a long time now. Back in the day when I was doing drill sergeant duty we had to always screen for gang members. They won't come out and tell you they are in a gang you have to pick up on it. Like a 311, 14 words tats and other stuff like that. They like to send them to military training so they can learn to shoot and other neat stuff that we do then get kicked out and bring it back to the gang. You can take the thug out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the thug so we usually catch them before we got to BRM.

But how do you determine if they are still apart of the gang or not?Do they do the same for militia members as well or is that considered a gang too?

We would run them all out if we were able to put together a good enough case. We had an LTC that was pretty tough to sell at times to get punks kicked out. Militias, gangs, hate groups all the same. When we had just simple race issue problems we usually tied them together with a piece of 550 cord at the belt loops until they were friends. It worked......most of the time.

Boy, you pi$$ me off sometimes, MM. You just finish calling me a hypocrite in another thread, and then you beat me to this one and post exactly the question I had in mind.

We'll bring you to the right someday.

Back to the thread...and how do you stop them from re-joining their gangs when they leave the military?

I love it! When I was a kid, my brother and I got into one scrap too many for my mom. She made us kneel down facing each other nose-to-nose. Within minutes we were cracking up too much to be mad at each other.

hell how do you stop ones who weren't in gangs, from joining when they return? It's not like killing people is a job skill. It's tough for ex military to get jobs, it's really sad, but it's true. Now alot of kids joining are from slums, and bad areas, so how do you keep them out when they return when vets are treated like ****?

The key is to figure out that they are bangers and kick their asses out before they get too much training. Some slip through the cracks either but not being tatted up before they get there or just play the role enough to get by. You have to understand the goal is not to graduate BT but to get as close as possible then do something to get sent home. End of the day if they make it they make it and there isn't anything you can do about it. We just tried to figure out who the bangers were really early and it usually wasn't very hard. Put 70 something kids in a room and they will talk and you always have the rat who would tell it thinkingn we (DI's) would let his no good ass into the desert tray.

Nah, I'm not taking it personally, but thanks. We just come down on different sides of some of the issues.

IMO, its virtually impossible to be a member of a political party and not be hypocritical at some point. Sooner or later (politicians being what they are), you are going to find yourself defending - or attacking - the same tactics the other guy used when he had the power. That's why I usually try to approach political debate from the standpoint of left/right, rather than Democrat/Republican.
