Great story and accurate as to how the team took to Hinton. A guy I went to high school with was on the team with Lora and we hung out a little. Hinton was just one of the team and a nice guy.
Glad to see they have the great memories they deserve.

LSU signed Lora's high school teammate, not knowing how the transition would work out. Chuck Mamoudis came to LSU from his same high school. Chuck passed away a while back. I still see and talk with Lora's son who works in Baton Rouge.

Lora was the First African American to receive an LSU football scholarship.
Mike Williams was the first to actually play varsity for LSU. Lora Hinton injured his knee, so Mike ended up playing before him.

It came down between Duke and LSU, Lora chose LSU.

Both of those guys were playing when I was in college. Hinton was the first black football player, Mike Williams and Terry Robiskie were the first black stars and Charles Alexander was the first black superstar at LSU
