Overlaid over the security classification are access programs that protect or, compartmentalize, sources of information. Depending on one's need to know, there are very many programs with varying degrees of access, which are essentially, levels of information about the source.

There are other access programs that compartmentalize US programs and capabilities.

There are a shitload of compartments.

The whole deal is to restrict access to sensitive information regardless of source to those with the absolute need to know.
