    You hand sniffing perv:D

What if the kid is legal savvy and tells you "Let's see a warrant or a court order. You can't examine me without due process."

Actually we can search them with probable cause. Vehicles parked on campus can be searched too. I don't phuck with vehicles. Have enough shit without that. If a kid wants to keep a can of dip or a pack of cigs in their car to smoke on the way home that's tween them and their parents. Let their parents search it.

Local school did search vehicles last year and found marijuana in one. Problem was, the car belonged to a coach. lmao

We do random searches. Most of the time entire classes. Just as an example, I can line up kids off of the bus and tap every other one to step out then search only them. As long as I have some pattern to show no student was targeted- without PC, that is.

If we arrest minors the LEO can't question them without a parent present but I can.

I have maybe written 2 or 3 referrals in the past decade, but I'm as specific as possible when I have written them. If a kid says "fuck;" I'm going to write that on the referral. But kids are usually pretty happy in my room, so I don't have too many issues.

I didn't send but 3 or 4 a year but some teachers send 30+ and think they have good discipline. I run reports and share to show them how they compare to teachers with 1/3 that many, who teach the same kids.

Hard to change them though. Some think the more referrals you write the more discipline you have.

Funny you say that about the "F" word. Today I had a teacher tell me a kid called her "A fucking racist." When she brought the referral she said she didn't write it. The referral said he was misbehaving and talking back. I sent it back to her and told her IF he said that word, to write it. I want the parents to see and when I call them I say the word for them to hear it.

I had 2 teachers with 30 referrals last year (8th grade). When I showed them they used the canned response, "The kids are bad." Then I pulled out the year before and those two had the highest number that year and the year before also. hmmmm

I'm big on discipline with dignity too. Some teachers don't realize how they escalate small incidents into big blow ups. Overall though, the 50 teachers where I work are very good with kids and don't send many referrals.

Yep, a teacher who refers a boatload of kids is a poor teacher. The one kid I wrote up last year was for breaking a girl's cell phone by messing around and knocking it on the floor after the girl had asked him to leave her phone alone. (We stopped fighting against cell phones in class years ago, and honestly, the kids don't abuse the privilege of having them with them in class. If they do, a teacher can choose to not allow them.

The first day of school this year, I was making polite, end-of-day conversation with a 6th grade teacher, "How was your day?"

"It sucked! I had to call five parents today because their kids were so bad."

Seriously? How was my first day? Awesome. The first day of school is the 2nd best day of the year (behind the last day of school.) Three weeks in, and things are still cool with my kids. Now...the poor 2nd year teacher next door? Um...she's suffering.

I learned long ago to never argue with a kid. The teacher will always lose. I rarely raise my voice or show anger...kids will always say I'm calm. It keeps my students calm, too.

So true. I tell them kids can only argue if you continue it. And why argue when we hold all the cards and have nothing to negotiate. If you have to tell them you're the boss, you aren't.

I don't go in and ruin their day even when I'm in a bad mood. I also treat them the way I'd like my own children treated.

I genuinely like my kids (well, most of them...and when I don't, I fake it.)
