While on the subject of high school football I didn't see any post about the La player that died during a game. http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/09/louisiana_high_school_football.html
They are suspended from the team and from school and face criminal assault charges if the investigation indicated that it was deliberate, which will be awfully hard to dispute. The official association has said that they should never be allowed to play football again. If they are, heaven help the school that plays them. The refs will have zero tolerance for that school, they will never get a break.
Never seen anything like it. There is obviously no justification for their actions but I'm curious to know what in the hell made them decide to do such a thing? I watched the replay over and over and there is absolutely no way to say that it was anything other than intentional and malicious. I agree that they should be banned from playing football again. The punishment needs to be swift and severe so as to deter any potential copycats.
Pretty damned cowardly to sucker attack someone from behind. Worse if you gang up on him. Worse if you are wearing pads and plastic armor and the victim is not. Worse if you spear a helpless victim on the ground. Paint them as the cowards that they are. That alone will help prevent copycats. An angered athlete would complain about the ref after the game if he thought he had behaved improperly. A angered man would have confronted the ref face to face. These were cowards. There is about a 5% chance that they will apologize and say that they were caught up in the emotion of the moment. But I expect their lawyers will say that the referee made racist remarks and deserved to be attacked. Their twitter defenders are already saying it.
