Okay, it's that time of year. As most of you know, we keep our own little football database here in the office. It drives my overpaid, underworked staff crazy, but, hey, they get to do it in lousy working conditions. The NCAA keeps an official stat on the top ten winningest programs by decade. Unfortunately, their gurus consider a decade to start with the "00" year, when we all know decades start with the "01" year and end with the "00" year, but....... it is what it is... So here's our calculation for the first 8 years of the NCAA's ranking, 2000-2007. Two notes: LSU has never finished in the top ten in winning percentage since they started the stat in the decade of the 1940's. And, the ONLY team that has made the top ten list in every decade since 1950 is Penn State. They are now 64-46 (58%) and are virtually eliminated from making the list for the 2000's.... nice run, though... With two season left to go in the decade of 2000: 1. Boise State........96-19...... .8347% 2. Texas................95-20...... .8260 3. Oklahoma...........93-20...... .8230 4. Ohio State.........92-22...... .8070 5. USC..................92-23...... .8000 6. LSU..................94-24...... .7966 7. Georgia..............91-25..... .7844 8. Virginia Tech......90-28...... .7627 9. Miami................81-30...... .7363 10. Auburn.............84-31..... .7304 11. Michigan...........82-31..... .7256 12. Florida..............83-32..... .7217 13. TCU.................80-31..... .7207 14. Louisville...........80-32..... .7148 15. Boston College...82-33..... .7130 16. W Virginia.........79-33..... .7053 17. Tennessee........81-35..... .6982 18. Oregon.............76-36..... .6785 19. Hawaii..............79-38..... .6752 20. Wisconsin.........78-38...... .6724 We believe this data to be correct. Should you find a flaw, please contact me and I will bring my staff together for a beat down meeting, which are usually held each Friday. LSU + "the 2000's = High Cotton.
I'll try to hide your response from my staff. They get quite nasty when challenged, especially when they get back at 11:00, wired from their two hour coffee break.
Things of note: The demise of Florida state ... the Michigan/Florida game was a tie-breaker of sorts...
