Patterson strikes me as a coach who still has quite a bit of growing up to do. The Jeremy Hill situation is a case in point. Rather than give a noncommittal coachspeak answer when asked, he went out of his way to generate controversy while basking in his own self-righteousness. Then he decides to try to play petty, bush-league mind games by saying Fields would suit up. He's not a big fish in a small pond anymore, he's playing with the big boys now. If he wants to win the Big 12, he should worry about cleaning up the druggies in his own program and focusing on their performance instead of running his mouth unnecessarily.
Bingo. Every coach on the losing side comes in and points out where his team went wrong, mistakes that led to points being the most obvious. And they always phrase it as, "we gave them -- points." If everyone didn't have the red-ass over how Patterson handled the Hill and Fields situations, this thread doesn't exist.
LSU actually gave TCU 21 points. The poor kick coverage. The stupid late hit penalty that extended the drive. The senseless fumble inside our 10 that had nothing to do with the TCU defense. For good measure, the poor punt giving them a short field and a subsequent FG. So make it 24. So they had a hard earned 3 points. This game was an absolute mauling by the Tigers. There is no if this, if that scenarios for TCU. There nearly was for LSU, however.
When your running back fumbles without being touched, that's a gift, no matter how you want to look at it.
I was referring to Patterson and the plays TCU said they gave LSU. We gave them gifts, not vice versa. LOL.
