It wasn't a perfect game, and our problems in the red zone are beyond frustrating. But that was an LSU team playing LSU football tonight. Be proud of our guys--facing up to the adversity and the jeers of the "fans" on the boards all week. And answering the call. This is a largely young team that made strides in the right direction tonight.
After FU game, I said our play calling sucked, our offense was too predictable, and that if we lost to SC, we would be 8-4/7-5 team, but I was in that stadium in the late 80s/90s when it was barely half full, so I assure you, I am far from a bandwagon fan. That said, our playcalling was better tonight then in any of our other SEC games and we even showed a new wrinkle with Spencer at QB, so hats off to the offensive staff for that, Would still like to see a wider variety of plays and for them to trust Mett to throw something besides a fade when in the red zone, but hopefully, tonight's win will build on that. The D was outstanding, but the much maligned offensive line won the game for us. 258 yards rushing to 34 against the 2nd best defensive line in the country (next to ours)
Stacey is exactly right. This is a completely different team than the national championship team. They made huge strides tonight on the offensive side of the ball. There were a few head scratchers on offense with the play calls, but I think when we got near the goal line the plan was to obviously play to at least come away with 3 and not turn the ball over. If that meant running the ball 3 times and kick a field goal, then that's what we were gonna do. Remember Les went for it, and it looked like Ware had it, but we moved before the snap. We saw Spencer Ware run the wildcat. When did you think you would ever see that? No fumbles tonight, the O line played a great game. We still have to finish drives better, but I saw an offense that didn't get down and kept chopping wood. That is a big improvement because the team that played last week wouldn't have overcome the mistakes made. The arrant throw over Landry's head, the OBJ drop that would have been a first down, the interception. Is this team perfect? By no means, but what we did learn is that they can bounce back and they can get better, and can score touchdowns against good defenses. They have the potential to beat anyone in the country and can if they just execute. Game balls to the entire defense, the entire O line and Jeremy Hill. With an honorable mention to Spencer Ware for gutting it out and helping his team while he was sick and getting some crucial first downs on 3rd. And speaking of that, 3rd down conversions were off the charts tonight time of possession was off the charts tonight. Great win Tigers, it's always nice to ruin Spurrier's season since he used to make us look stupid when he was at Florida.
Well everyone should have known we were doing to come out playing like our dreadlocks were on fire. And be more diverse. Now we must continue to get mett game reps and confidence up so we can be successful in the red zone. You will have to score touchdowns at faggie field. The offensive line was busting people in the mouth. Studrawa and les deserve a raise for fixing that mess in a week. Poor #27 the safety was being dragged around like van gundy on pat ewings leg.
This team needs to build on this win and continue improving. Very promising performance. PS Wing needs to come out of whatever slump he is in and start punting lights out again!
Right on. I too rode out those unproductive years in Tiger Stadium. What most folks in this post fail to understand is the difference between a bandwagon fan (only pulling for you team during winning times, and completely denouncing them when they lose), and a concerned loyal fan who just comes on here to talk about real issues they see.
Just because you criticize and arent happy with the product thats being put out there doesnt make you a bandwagon fan. Thats BS. Ive been a LSU fan since I can remember, back in the Dalton/James Gang. There was nothing to cheer about after the UF game. I admit I can be a bit emotional in some of my posts after a loss. Its not the loss that got me, its the lack of improvement. With the way LSU came out to play last night I could have accepted a loss without a complaint or real hars criticism of Miles or any of the staff. Im glad to eat some crow here. I give Miles and staff all the credit here. They had the team focused and ready to play. That was NOT the LSU team over the last 4 games. This was LSU playing to their potential. I If criticizing a team thats consistently making the same mistakes and regressing then so be it, I guess Im a bandwagon fan.
Yes indeed. Instead of kicking the other thread I'll just say here that I was wrong about the "throttle."
