Not sure what some of these owners/gms are thinking in waiting so long and losing out on some pretty good options (ala Ravens DC Ryan).
ESPN is reporting that Peoli is pursuing Shanahan. That would make for an interesting AFCW race next season.
I used to be a Broncos fan, but I lost interest when Elway retired. Mike has a brilliant offensive mind but sometimes I think he spent too much time offensive game planning. That and he had the final decision on player transactions. Made some really stupid draft choices and free agent signings. If Peoli limits his responsibilities and gets him a good defensive coordinator he would turn KC around in a few years.
I just don't think any head coach should be GM as well. Even Holmgren has fallen from grace. You can't do both.
No doubt about it. The coach and GM need to be in lockstep with one another, but sole authority in one man isn't the answer. Pioli and Shanahan may just end the AFC West once and for all.
Peter King, SI writer is reporting Shanahan won't coach the Chiefs or anyone else in 2009. His source was a NFL source close to Shanahan. For 7 million, I'd take a 12 month vacation.
