I'm thinking they were class of '93 rather than '94 like I mentioned above because by the time Kevin Faulk came in and played as a true freshman in '95, those guys were mostly gone. Kendall Cleveland must have been class of '94. I think David Butler moved to defense (corner or safety?) but had some return duties. I had cousins that went to school (S. Terrebone) with David Butler and they always talked about him. I think they won state his last year. It was probably unfortunate that he entered LSU with that class.
The Fab-5: Robert Toomer, GA Robert Davis, AL Artie Moore, MS Jay Johnson, TX David Butler, LA Yep, Butler was a CB, good player. He and Toomer both finished at LSU. Moore, Johnson and Davis moved on. When Kevin Faulk was recruited, Curley was out, Gerry was in. Gerry's first stop was to see Kevin in Carencro. A coach from the previous staff went in and talked with Kevin. Hes the one that sold Kevin on keeping his commitment. Gerry was an afterthought. When Kevin backed off LSU, A&M sent in a few people to Carencro, Mike Sherman (Yes their X-HC). There was a big push to sway him West. A coaching friend of mine nicknamed Kevin "Hoss" to this day if that coach calls and asks, "Hoss, hows it going?" Kevin knows how it is. Another recruiting story involved the first LSU Football player to declare for the NFL his Jr. year. He had given a verbal to Fla. St. after a visit (LSU was never quite in the picture), with help from a few locals and a former LSU Player, this player started to open up to LSU. He committed to LSU on a conference call with LSU and A&M listening on the other ends.Anyone want to guess this former player?
