I have been on the phone with all of the parties all day and this is what went down so far and what will go down. Soooooooooo... Michigan contacted Les Miles' agent and told him that later this evening following the game, a formal contract offer would be made. So there was a natural buzz about that and a general feeling Miles would accept the offer Monday. Miles, quite honestly had not even thought about the offer or the job, but he was very, very firm that he did not... i repeat DID NOT want to talk about this until after the game/season. So, when Herbie drops the bomb on Gameday, Miles sees the report and is absolutely furious, so he promptly calls his agent and tells his agent to tell Michigan to shove it. What this means for the future is that Miles is staying in LSU indefinitely. I can not see him ever leaving. For all the people saying this is a smoke-screen, that couldn't be farther from the truth. He WILL be here next season barring scandal or death, because as he said in his post-game, Baton Rouge is his home now.
He told his players before the game that He is a Michigan Man and will wear Maise and Blue when Michigan plays Ohio State every year, but he is and will be the LSU Fighting Tiger Head Coach.
it was obvious how pissed he was during his 30 second press conf before the game. and given that anything was said, and i was certain that nothing was "leaked" from him, it made me wonder how pissed he might be at michigan as well as espn.
I agree with you on this one, he seemed quite agitated at the PC and Id be willing to bet that might have been part of the reason.
That is basically the same thing they were saying on WWL 870 during the pregame, and I believed it then. I now believe it even more...but don't let that go to your head, Clair!:hihi:
I think at this point it's obvious what happened. Kirk Herbstreit had the truth, it's just that it was the truth on Friday morning, not Saturday morning. One thing you guys might not be aware of is that Michigan formed a 7-person search committee to find, interview, and offer a coach. On this 7-person search committee was Desmond Howard, a close co-worker of Herbstreit. I highly doubt Herby would have gone live with his announcement if Desmond wouldn't have told him it was a done deal. So many things happen behind the scenes that you will never know it all. But I believe Miles said he wanted the job, knowing he was in a win-win situation. The information leaked to LSU who then countered with a ridiculous increase in pay. In the end, Miles played the game to benefit his pocket book. I have no idea why he'd be worth $3.5 million a year, but more power to him. As for a smoke screen I wouldn't worry about it. After Miles played Michigan (and LSU) there's no way we'd even bring him on board now. I wish you guys all the luck, but don't think for a second there's a single coach in this entire country that doesn't put money above any loyalty.
don't listen to the hater... Miles didn't speak to Michigan at any point in this process... He can take Desmond Howard and Herbie and shove it.
