I cant understand why Shepard isnt in for more plays. Honestly I think its pretty ridiculous considering he is the most explosive player on the team. He should be getting more touches as a runner, receiver, and some passes to keep the D honest. I loved the play calling early on in the game. I thought to myself finally! Playing LSU football here. Then came reality and back to the predictable play calling. Ill never understand the options on 3rd and 5 or more? LSU is passing well when JJ has time. In order to beat teams like UF and Bama LSUs OL will have to man up and the coaches will have to seek other ways to move the chains. I think spreading it out with more Shepard is a good idea. I think running wide is our only chance until or if the OL ever plays to their ability. No the sky isnt falling but with the meat of the schedule coming up LSU isnt really improving. Every time they take a step forward they take another one or two backwards.
We are going to have to come up a running game going into the next game. Georgia and Florida can put up alot of points, Georgia gives up alot of points, Florida really doesn't. If anyone watched the Colts Dolphins monday game this past monday, what Miami did was control the clock by running the ball, and taking their time doing so. We have to be able to do that against Florida, keeping their offense off the field is going to be crucial. Tebow still might be seeing stars in that game, so when he they are on the field, we gotta put pressure on him and disguise the pressure. This would be a good strategy against Georgia as well. Shep needs to have a big role in these 2 games.
So basically become Hawaii or Texas Tech? While I think LSU could be successful with that, to be honest, I don't think it would work in the SEC. LSU's defense will be on the field too long and wear down too much by the 4th Qtr. I've thought about this before because it seems like a good fit, but truth is I don't think we could ride this to a NC. We're going to need to establish a true running game to be able to eat the clock up at some point. And To be honest, I'm a lot more comfortable when we're winning ToP.
it's an overreaction to even suggest that Miles should be replaced .... and it's naive to believe that the other programs in the SEC aren't beginning to dial-in to what LSU has been using to succeed with in the past. i also believe that a lot of folks are just now waking up to the reality of the value that CSS meant to LSU's offensive success. Auburn learned it's lesson the hard way. You begin losing talented coaches out of a championship-caliber program and you're going to feel it. When players recruited by departed coaches are challenged by their new coaches, it sometimes requires a lot more patience to get through to them and get them functioning as a complete unit. Just my dos centavos ... but the only thing I think LSU is missing is a strong dose of leadership on both sides of the ball. Y'all have the hosses ....
I agree with most of your post, except for this. :insane: This is one of those games we win with talent alone. We may not cover, but we won't lose.
Those teams don't play defense. We do. Big difference. And I really don't understand that mentality. So going three and out with the 2 yards and a cloud of mud football is supposed to be more effective controlling the clock than moving the chains 5, 6 and 7 yard gains at a time? I am not asking for an all out aerial attack. I want a balanced run and pass with this scheme. We can still run the ball 30 times with this formula. It will eat up the clock.
sorry, .... Coach Stacey Searles. He is not only a great developer of talent, but his players play very hard for him. The talent that LSU has along the LOS is the pick of the litter ..... it's not that you don't have the talent. Again, JMO.
Actually we are missing some talent. Les had to dismiss four offensive linemen two years ago. All of our second string are freshmen or sophomores and our starters stay in almost the whole game . . . which is a problem. Stacy Searles was popular with his players, but his lines underperformed here his last two years, when we were really loaded with OL talent. Les felt the need to upgrade. I'm not sure if Stud is the answer and if so, Les willbe looking to upgrade there again soon.
