Yet another crucial decision by Miles is to let the new DC have free reign on who he wants to bring in.
It depends who we took off our sched. to get back to 11 games. If it was one of Ga. or Fla, we'd be 7-4, not 6-5. The SEC forced us to add an SEC game per year, not just another cup cake. And if all the defending champs had to play our SEC schedule and face 3 teams out of the top ten, there may have been more defending champs with 4 or 5 losses. There are plenty of reasons to be disappointed with out season, it was not a good campaign. I don't think the stat cited is a strong condemnation of the campaign, because how many teams does USC play that would result in them losing 5 games in the PAC 10, or Ohio St. in the Big Ten? The conf. and schedules are not comparable. That's why we've maintained for years that the SEC is the toughest overall conf. top to bottom. The point is not a major one, just thought I'd put in my .02. I'm done with this one.
No disagreement there. If you were trying to decide on a major program, the possibility of immediate playing time would seem VERY attractive.
islstl, no way would I have thought we would be 7-5 this year. No WAY. I thought worst case scenario was 8-4 but 9-3 was realistic with the boatloads of talent we have. This is a complete screw up by the coaching staff. Period.
Thing is I wonder what the perception would be on the program and Miles if they didn't win the National Championship Last Year which was truly luck and being blessed even though people don't want to admit it but just look back at what happen in order to allow LSU in the national championship.
It is very very rare that a program stays in the top five or even the top twenty-five year after year after year. We have an outstanding program that is having a hiccup. We need a new DC. We need consistent play at QB. We need to play better in the trenches..on both sides of the ball. To me that's were our biggest step backwards has been this year. Neither of our lines have been playing like we are used to seeing. We all knew that we'd struggle at QB. None of us really knew what we were getting with the Co-DC experiment, but I would assume that ALL of us thought our lines would continue to be dominate. Oops...we all missed the boat on that one. Also let us not forget where Florida was last year, with a Heisman trophy winning QB. Let us not forget where Oklahoma was headed before they lucked their way into an outstanding QB, who by the way was a 3 star recruit. Sometimes it takes a little bit of luck to get to the top, and it takes a lot more luck to stay there. But, nobody is lucky ALL the time. Miles has a chance to make a change for the better this offseason, to not leave things up to luck next year, and I for one believe he knows exactly what he has to do and believe he will be doing it shortly after the season is over. I will reserve my harsh judgments until next year.
If opportunities for early playing time attracts recruits would'nt they be flocking to schools like Kentucky, Miss. State, Vandy.
