This is the 2nd thread that has now become unbearable to read through. And there is one common theme between them.
Coast, you are not the 1st and will not be the last to point out what went wrong during the MSU game. This has been debated in many ways with relevant discussion on here and many other boards. Saying the same argument over and over and claiming to be one of the few who see it that way is just out there. It is not what you are saying but the way it is repeated and expressed by yourself. If you want everyone to jump on and agree with all the specific reasons you are stating, it is not going to happen.
My point was that you claimed that we would not be on the level of Florida, Georgia, etc., until we improved our pass D even though their pass D has been no better than ours at times. Ole Miss' pass D is not ranked as high as ours, but they were able to beat Florida. The same goes for Bama beating Georgia. Their passing d is not the best, but you don't win or lose just on passing D (except maybe in the Lou Tepper era). And yes, individual matchups are important. Florida had a lot of trouble defending against Ole Miss, but Ole Miss does not have a typical offense. They show sets that most teams don't show. However, Florida was even having trouble stopping straight up runs through the middle. That will be a BIG issue for Florida if they don't do something different against LSU. Still, it will be extremely hard for LSU to win there because their backs are against the wall and I'm sure they've had us circled since last year's game. You have to remember, we have the #1 rusher, the #1 receiver and the #1 total offense in the SEC (even though I think scoring offense is more important and we're still #2 after just 4 games). These teams have to STOP us as well. We're not just relying on the defense. I definitely see where we could have some issues if we don't start sending more pressure when we play against the big boys. However, we have a balanced team and many of the other teams you ranked ahead of us do not have a shut-down passing D either. So at this moment, I don't think the argument that we are not on their level or shouldn't be ranked ahead of them is backed up by anything strong. And do you honestly think we will play just like we did against MSU when we play Bama? I believe the atmosphere will be a little different and players tend to react differently. I know, each game is your biggest game, etc. It's something coaches fight all the time. I guess it's just human nature, but players tend to fly around faster, etc., in BIG games. I thought the team played okay Saturday night, but had some moments that were not good. They didn't just come out, play lazy and nearly get upset. It was somewhat sloppy, etc., but they took care of business in the end. In the end, I do agree that they need to come up with a good scheme for Florida or Harvin will be open all day when we play them and that is a big key to beating Florida. The other key is shutting down Tebow from running. Ole Miss did 1 out of 2 (stopped Tebow) and brought their offense. I assume we would need to at least do that to come away with a victory.
Pardon? I don't think I am the one insisting on "conformity". Thats you guys. I don't claim to have special insight. What I see is obvious. Its shocking to me that there isn't more agreement that the Secondary was substandard. But, it doesn't match the "narrative" so I, and my posts, become the target for condemnation.
I agree with the last paragraph completely. I also agree that its a challenge to keep kids motivated every week. Last year we did well in the "big" games. Not so well in two games that nearly cost us the NC. As for Floridas DB vs our DBs, I agree that neither have been stellar. But I would think that we might want ours to produce better being being that we will be pitted vs Tebow and theirs will be pitted vs Jarrett Lee (all of his awards for being "best freshman" not withstanding).
For the record, I am not going to kill anybody. It was a joke. That's me and my sense of humor. And Nootch won't call me out because he knows if he does I will hunt him down and kill him.
No lecture. You are really defensive aren't you? Chill... No-one here is going to kill you or hunt you down. Will this make you feel better? Sabanfan, sweety, don't threaten to kill people who criticize the team. See! He's after Nootch, not you. Bringing this thread back to its original design- Herbie's Top 5 picks. 1. OU 2.Alabama 3. Mizzou 4. LSU 5. Texas I can see where he would place the Top 3 as he did but I really want to know his logic for ranking Mizzou above LSU. I guess we'll never know what's in Kirk's head...
