"What happened to LSU last year? "They went through winning the championship and having a lot of turnover in the coaching staff, losing some great players and dealing with the pressure of 'everyone wants to beat us' just overwhelmed them. The way they played in the bowl game built some momentum. I think there's enough there." " UGASports.com - Herbstreit on the SEC
+1. I like Herbie, would probably like him more if he weren't on ESPN. It's almost like he's scared to say anything concrete.
Herbie does tend to let his OSU homerism and perpetual USC man-crush show through, but overall he's one of the more solid college fb analysts over there, along with Mark May, notwithstanding the Miles-to-Michigan incident.
How good can the Tide be in Coach Nick Saban's third season? "Alabama will be fine, but they have to find a quarterback and replace some guys on the offensive line. As long as Nick Saban is at Alabama they're going to be a 10, 11, or 12- win team every single year. Whoever wins that game it could be a spring board into having a championship type run." Ummm.......... And what, exactly, does Bama have that LSU didn't have during his tenure here?
I did think that was a funny comment about bama. In 13 seasons as a head coach he has had three 10+ win seasons. So that tells us he will have them from now on? I think bama will be pretty decent this year because of their defense and I suppose their OLine could come together, but assuming a ten+ win season? Will have to remember this one over the years.
Well, Herbie, Nick hasn't done that at Bama so far, at 7-6 and 12-2. However Les did go 11-2, 11-2, 12-2 in his first three years at LSU. Nick's reputation is still built on what he accomplished at LSU, not at Bama. LSU has done better without Nick (46-11) than Nick has done without LSU (34-25).
As much as I hate to say it, though, he did lay the foundation. Facility upgrade, etc. Quite costly though but it's brought us back to the top and we've stayed there.
I believe this was an overall effort by the entire Athletics department and TAF. They just kind of hit a wall and said "enough is enough". Saban was just a piece of that puzzle. IDK if we could have done it without him, but I don't neccessarily think we COULDN'T have.
