He's got big shoes to fill if he's replacing Bloom. Bloom did a fantastic job with SEC updates on some of the most unique trivia facts about the conference through Twitter. I may be coining the phrase here...he was a "must follow."
Herb is great talent and should have gotten the AD job that Aleva got and he did make the short list. He's young, extremely smart, and the only person in the Athletic Department that will return every email from anybody . . . even when he was promoted to Vice Chancellor of the University. I think he's making this move to punch his ticket with the SEC and hopefully get an AD job at a major university within three years. He knows now that LSU will only hire an AD with "proven experience". Like Johnny Jones he must get this experience elsewhere to be a candidate to replace Alleva at LSU in a few years.
Now, you said that Herb Vincent is "young," but I'm guessing that's a relative term? I graduated from LSU 21 years ago, and he was in the athletic department then.
Young compared to his predecessors. Alleva, Skip, Joe Dean . . . Bob Broadhead was the last LSU AD that was under 50.
