what am i missing about this major pitch by the gop to reform health insurance? from what i understand it would not apply to those that get insurance through employer. so take out them and medicare and medicaid and, what?, it effects 5% of the country?
You are right. That's how it is now, but the Dem's master plan will have us all shopping for insurance and the interstate plan will increase competition and reduce costs.
The major pitches I've heard call for tax cuts so people can get insurance as an incentive, and allow for health insurance to be bought across state lines. Some have also argued that it's better to have the employee get their own insurance and not have the employer offer it. None of these points really deal with the ER visits or the burden of doctors not being paid by the government for people on social entitlement programs, or illegal aliens abusing the system. To me, both sides have some good points and horrible ones that won't really make the problem better. It's a shame that they can't get past ideologies to work together.
Since I'm fluent in Spanish, and have been totally screwed by health insurance companies, I think my best bet is to swim across the Rrio Grande INTO Mexico and become an illegal alien over there. Then I can go see el medico and receive prescriptions at fair and reasonable prices. It's either that or just adjust my income to qualify for medicaid here in the USA. Health insurance companies can get regulated into submission as far as this conservative Republican is concerned. I was dropped for making a legitimate claim for childbirth, and was diagnosed with Diabetes outside of coverage...and can not get health insurance. I have to pay for my own doctor visits and medications and I can't afford it. so I just don't go to the doctor or test my blood. I take the inadequate meds I can afford and just hope for the best. Screw the insurance companies.
im all for it, i think. makes sense that premiums stay high because they are not subject to market forces largely because it is a benefit. if i had to pay $800/mo out of pocket id shop around.
Yep, sounds like a republican plan to me, i wonder which 5% it will benefit? I'm with Steve though, i may just pack up the fam, and head on down to ole Mexico once a month, the meds are definitely cheaper, way cheaper.
wasn't this whole boondoggle that the dems just tried to ram down our throats only gonna help 5%? they seemed to think it was a big deal.
I took Haley to the doctor this week. We pay 600/mo for our insurance thru Lisa's employer. We have a 2500 annual deductible. My out of pocket for the dr visit was $130. The schedule of fees showed that if I was uninsured, it would have been $85. I pay insurance premiums, yet I have to pay more for my visits than someone w/ no insurance. WTF?
That was exactly my point in another thread. I pointed out that if we got rid of the middle man and just paid cash for some things it would be cheaper.
You have to be reading that wrong. A charge is a charge no matter who the guarantor is. Generally the amount billed to uninsured patients is 20 to 30 percent higher.
