Isn’t the Supreme Court supposed to issue their ruling this week…I would just google it but I’m having google issues right now.
By the end of June is the best I can find...... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/27/supreme-court_n_1549326.html?ref=politics
I'm all for some kind of health care reform...just no the the Obamacare. By that I mean....the republicans have done NOTHING to regulate the health insurance companies. So if Obama's plan is ruled constitutional, My first question to the very first republican politician I see is...Are you gonna kick yourself in the ass or do you want me to do it for you? I'm a conservative pro life republican who is a chronic voter...That has gotten royally screwed by his Private health insurance company....Screwed for life until some real reform comes down the pike. Screw the private health insurance companies !! (This is not an endorsement for Obamacare)
Explain how this is not an endorsement for Obamacare. I'm not being abrasive or challenging, I'm just curious.
Well said! Healthcare is something that needs to be addressed regardless of the decision handed down by the Supreme Court because we cannot simply go back to let the insurance companies screw people who are sick or previously uninsured. I voted for Obama and I favor reforming health care but I am not convinced that Obamacare is the best medicine. There are facets of it that I think are strong and make sense (i.e. disallowing insurance companies to drop sick people and refusing coverage based on pre-existing conditions. I will be interested to see how the Court rules and how it plays after following the decision.
I don't think anyone here is going to be abrasive about this so it's all good. When my conservative friends, most of whom are doctors, tell me that Obama's plan is a bad one I believe them. Heck, I don't think anyone who is involved in this national debate even read the plan...I sure didn't. So I defer to others who have a basis to form a more valid opinion. I believe them when they say it's a bad plan. That's why I don't endorse it. I tend to see things differently than most people. First of all I tend to see the big picture...the down the road vision. Most people tend to dwell in the immediate reality. Secondly, I tend to see things in the light of Faith. That's a story for another day, but I had a gradual conversion from my days when I was as young as most of you guys. As a result, I've grown to become less involved in politics and their polarizing positions...and I tend to take positions that have to do with the general welfare of our community rather than what's good for me personally. You can call it pragmatism or whatever. I got dropped from my health insurance company because I made a claim...a claim that had nothing to do with sickness. It had to do with coverage of the cost of delivery for my third child. I had paid my co payment and the insurance company wouldn't pay the hospital and doctors. This was part of my contract with the insurance company. It was a normal, uncomplicated delivery. It was a normal uncomplicated claim. Trouble was that I was placed in collection by the hospital the day before I was going to close on my house in the Northshore. This delayed the closing and those things are very time sensitive. I didn't have time to play the waiting game so I sued them...for triple the price of the house. They immediately got in touch with my attorney and agreed to pay the claim so that the closing would happen on time... if I dropped the lawsuit. They paid, I dropped and after the closing they dropped me. No problem, I thought...I'll just get some coverage from a different company for me and my family. Problem was that I was an undiagnosed diabetic and discovered this from the blood test the prospective company gave me. I'm uninsurable. My family is uninsurable if I'm anywhere near the policy. I'm screwed. So forgive me if I hate the health insurance business. By the way, they not only screw their faithful policy holders, they screw the doctors and the hospitals. All in the name of corporate greed. When I tell this story to fellow republicans, I get "Gee that's a shame." They don't have to say "Glad I'm OK insurance wise, but fuck Steve."
You should read into Obamacare & see for yourself if YOU think it's a bad plan. You shouldn't believe that it's bad just b/c your friends say it is--conversely, you shouldn't believe that it's a good plan just because your friends say it is.
I said I see the big picture. The preamble to the Constitution of the United States states that God gave men the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The right to life is more encompassing than the debate on abortion...It has to do with a healthy life. It has to do with access to health care. And since the government of the United States only exists because God allows it, the government has the moral obligation to grant those God given rights.
No one told me it was a good plan. I don't think anyone understands that plan. I don't believe them if they say they do. I believe most people for it only understand the talking points that others school them in. I don't know the solution...I just know the scope of the problem. Probably regulation of the industry is a good start.
