It is no better when authority is left to the states or to Republicans. The Jindal administration is the most secretive on record. It is more than obscured by clouds, it is a iron curtain.
I've never said Republicans are better at open government; they aren't. And the only reason states are better is (a) they actually have to deal with a budget, and (2) they are close enough to go down and bang on the door and demand to know what's going on in that closed room. H Long proved it can be perverted badly; but we have a better chance of watching the foxes in the hen house the closer geographically we are to where decisions are made.
I was just reviewing the thread and realized I didn't respond to you point here. I agree with you they have played to the base and basically thrown the red meat "down with Obamacare" to the hard line wolves. And if they are for only tweaking the status quo I agree that's crap. But I don't think that's the whole story, I think its the primary season story. They did have ideas that were presented during the bill debate and I expect we will see those in the general campaign. I also briefly reviewed some of your other posts and agree I falsely accused you of being one sided. My apologies.
Red and kluke.....this is a great string of posts by each of you with viable points made by both. The ironic thing is that if our politicans could engage one another on the issues the same way their contituents do on a daily basis, our politics would likely be much less complicated.
The major problem is the priorities of todays politicians. 1. Getting themselves re-elected 2. Party politics 3. Special interests/lobbyists 4. Constituents wishes 5. What is best for the USA Which is exactly backwards.
Spot on. The money is the issue and has been for a very long time, which is a direct link to the first three and in some cases the fourth. The recent Supreme Court decision which allows unlimited campaign contributions has only exacerbated the problem.
Let me say as we enter this campaign season that I give my full unrestricted endorsement to this post. And I ask all my friends and supporters to support RED's post also. Give RED credit for this post. In fact give all your credit to RED; but send your cash to me. (This last sentence is to show I have a full understanding of our political system.) Seriously, and sadly, RED is way to close to an uncomfortable truth. Our political leaders are blinded by the tree where they poaching low hanging fruit - and don't think its their job to try to see or tend to the whole forest.
