“Health care” bill threatens your health care
    March 31st, 2010 | by Brian Schwartz |

Paul Hsieh, MD describes how “bundled payments” give doctors perverse incentives misaligned with your best interest:

One planned cost-cutting measure will be a new system of “bundled payments” where hospitals and physicians receive a fixed fee to take care of Medicare patients’ conditions (e.g., a stroke or a heart attack) regardless of how much the care actually costs. Proponents claim this will reward efficient care and reduce unnecessary tests and procedures. Pilot programs are already underway in some cities, and the ObamaCare legislation would expand these programs to the national level in 2013.

… this proposed Medicare “reform” would reward doctors and hospitals for denying care to their patients. …

Nor will this problem be confined to Medicare patients. As Betsy McCaughey notes, this will inevitably spill over onto patients with private insurance …

Jeffrey S. Flier: Health 'Reform' Gets a Failing Grade - WSJ.com

As the dean of Harvard Medical School I am frequently asked to comment on the health-reform debate. I'd give it a failing grade.

Instead of forthrightly dealing with the fundamental problems, discussion is dominated by rival factions struggling to enact or defeat President Barack Obama's agenda. The rhetoric on both sides is exaggerated and often deceptive. Those of us for whom the central issue is health—not politics—have been left in the lurch. And as controversy heads toward a conclusion in Washington, it appears that the people who favor the legislation are engaged in collective denial.

Our health-care system suffers from problems of cost, access and quality, and needs major reform. Tax policy drives employment-based insurance; this begets overinsurance and drives costs upward while creating inequities for the unemployed and self-employed. A regulatory morass limits innovation. And deep flaws in Medicare and Medicaid drive spending without optimizing care.

Speeches and news reports can lead you to believe that proposed congressional legislation would tackle the problems of cost, access and quality. But that's not true. The various bills do deal with access by expanding Medicaid and mandating subsidized insurance at substantial cost—and thus addresses an important social goal. However, there are no provisions to substantively control the growth of costs or raise the quality of care. So the overall effort will fail to qualify as reform.

Quit being so paranoid. Politicians would never do anyting that isn't in our best interests.

I dont post much on this forum, but I had to share this.
Last week I got a letter in the mail. My Health Insurance is going up. To top that off, the 5k I was able to put away to pay for my Daughters day care so my wife and I can work and contribute. Well that got cut in half as well with Obama care now only 2500k.

    Thanks Obama.

And the reality of this monster begins to sink in. We (working stiffs) can all expect to get that premium increase. But a few million messicans will be insured and isn't that all that matters?

Got a new one today. My wife who works for Caremark CVS had a company wide call today.
They are cutting costs to help pay for Obamacare. My wife is a recruiter for them and they have gone on a hiring freeze.
She is now in risk of her job being cut.
What the democrats DONT understand. Someone has to pay for this. Companies dont just take the revenue loss, they either cut overhead OR pass the cost on. Sadly it looks like my wife may pay for it with her job.

    Again. Thanks Obama.......
I am so glad you guys are in office..

I never have said I was against health reform but I am against Pelosi's bill.
I never denied there were problems but things will be much worse under this bill.
Hell, where does this country not need reform?
