And that's why Nick Saban went to Michigan State (historically, a "step child" school of Michigan's, much like Oklahoma State is to Oklahoma) before he made the step up to LSU. I hope that LSU is now an elite enough name to garner looks from already-proven coaches from large, not small conferences. We went with Curley Hallman (who, let's face it, was only worth a damn because Brett Freakin' Farve was his QB in '90) from a smaller school, and it didn't turn out so well, nor did the hire of Mike Archer or Jerry Stovall. DiNardo can be debated, though he did come from Vandy, which even though it's in the SEC...well...it's really not, is it?
So I'll play. If Les goes, my first choice would have been James Franklin until he backtracked on what he said about Nick Saban. Pussy... I like Patterson, and I like Briles but Briles can't field a defense. Briles would be huge because he came up the ranks as a Texas HS coach. But ultimately I think my choice would be Patterson, or the Dantonio guy or whatever his name is at Michigan State.
OK. And tell me again why we want to replace a coach who has an 80% win record, a national championship, two conference championships, and three Western Conference championships. Seriously, what do you think the chances of finding someone who can produce as good a record, much less a better one. It's easy to type out names on the internet, but how sure are you? What odds would you give that any one of them will have a better record?
See what I mean? Threw a few names out there and they are in a frenzy. I will just sit back and wait for the glorious day. I don't care if he wins 100% of his games. I will never like him.
