The whistle definitely blew. Right before JJ got crushed you could see him drop the ball to his side with 1 hand, that's why he fumbled on the play. The O-line also just kinda stood up and it helped Fairley get back there.
You know you are correct, I was thinking of the 2nd time, but the 1st time you're right. The play was blown dead, due to a penalty, the OL and JJ kinda just stopped, in what would have been the middle of the play, leaving the straight shot at JJ for Fairley. Yeh, it should have been a personal foul, but hey we are talking SEC refs aren't we. Anyway you cut it though it was unnecessary and dirty on Fairley's part.
I think this type of play should definitely be outlawed in college football. 15 yard penalty and an automatic ejection. I think it the reason it hasn't been done yet is because college D-linemen aren't the absolute beasts that the NLF D-linemen are. At least until now. I think this rule gets changed this offseason. Until it gets changed, Fairly and others who make this type of tackle are not dirty. They are playing within the rules. To say that it was a dirty play is just crybaby ****. Someone mentioned that if an LSU player did it, it would be OK. - I know they were half kidding. It's cool to watch our guys crush the other team, but it sucks to see it happen to your own. That is life in the SEC. We like to talk about baddass defense, we have to deal with it when it bites us in the ass. Can't have it both ways.
SEC Suspends MSU LB One Game For Flagrant Hit - Sports News Story - WGCL Atlanta this is why the Southeastern Conference is looked at as a corrupt league. They could have made a statement and done the right thing and suspended Fairley for a game like they did the kid from Mississippi State, but Auburn is undefeated and that just can't happen.
what game were you watching? didn't realize WWE changed from Monday night to Saturday afternoon Raw. now you have intent. Rule 9-1-4 of the NCAA Football Rule Book, which reads, "No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder." Fairley clearly drove his helmet into the helmet of Ryan Mallett causing a concussion, and did the same to Jordan Jefferson after the whistle was blown. Not to mention body slammed the dude later on.
LurkingTiger, .... you get a standing ovation from this CFB fan. It's part of the game in the real conferences .... and it's something that every good defense in the SEC displays on a regular basis .... *cough* Lavalais *cough* When you watch a replay of the game, keep a close eye peeled ... because I think you'll be surprised at what you find, particularly on the double-teams directed at Fairley and Blanc. I've watched the game replay twice and, quite frankly, I believe the bulk of the calls/missed calls leaned in favor of LSU. I don't think it changed the outcome of the game, but overall I do believe that the officiating was better and less controversial than usual. Respectfully, ... calling the aggressive play of the SEC's best D-lineman and a future all-american and 1st rounder a "dirty" player just sounds like .... well, sour grapes. If he was wearing the purple & gold, those same complainers ( yes, I'm talking about you , LaSalle :yelwink2 would be lauding his performance.
I would totally agree with this. There were a couple of calls/no calls that could've helped/hurt both teams, but the officials did not become part of the game. They let the players play ball. I wish they always did.
That's a bunch of crap and I'm pretty sure you know it. Otherwise, you wouldn't be trying to sell this "WOW I've watched it over and over and GEE you guys were really lucky to get away with some your stuff" - nice try huckster. I've benn complementing Auburn on their victory and saying they were better team all week, and complimenting Fairly. It's not sour grapes - what kind of fruit are you pushing? If you think it's such a good play be sure to tell him to use it in the NFL when he gets there and see how long his career lasts. Look up Charles Martin, he played college ball at West Alabama. Absolute beast, famous for the Jim MacMahon body slam. Had a 4 year NFL career, died at 45.
I know you can't really believe this. Aggressive play is not the same thing as blowing full steam and picking a player up, who is just standing there because the whistle blew the play dead, and slamming them to the ground.
