I had never had athletes foot in my life, even when I was an athlete until about a year ago. Had it between my big toe and the pointer toe. My doctor prescribed Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate cream. It took about 2 months but I finally got rid of it. A couple of months ago it came back. I have been applying the cream 3 or 4 times a day but it won't go away. When I walk just an average amount it gets pretty painful later in the day, How can I knock this out?
If you have an environment that is conducive for a fungus to thrive then it can come back. Also fungus is like bacteria, it can be/become resistant to antifugals. You might need oral anitfungals. Also if you have diabetes it may let this little bastard stay around. One kind of “home treatment” that can help is soaking your feet in 1 part bleach to 10 parts water for 15 mins per day. Not to much bleach b/c then you will have an irritant contact dermatitis and that’s a whole new cluster. The bleach/water should allow the meds your doc gave you to finish off the little pain in the ass.
In addition to what @Rouxleaux says, start putting anti fungal foot powder in your socks once a day. Has to say “anti fungal”, not just “medicated”. It keeps the colony counts low so it doesn’t have a chance to seed and re-emerge to begin with.
You may think this is a lie, but I came back from Haiti with something on my right foot that stayed for over 8 years until an old man told me to use vagisil.
