If recruits are that thin skinned that words from fans on forums scare them away, they have no business suiting up in a Tiger uniform. I want ones that can brush off the BS as well as evade an awesome SEC pass rush.
This. I know it seems callas and cold, but it's the truth. To be a successful QB, you can't get scared by what us idiots in the stands are saying. It's a competitive sport, and arguably the most competitive position in said sport. These guys eat, drink, and breathe that competition. If they get scared off by someone on an internet forum, the possibility of some student getting their phone #, or whatever else, then chances are they're not college football material. In other words, most of those QB recruits don't say "Gee, I don't want to piss that fan base off, I'm not going to that school."... They say, "Screw them, I'm going there to shut them up and show them what I can do.".. They want to be the guy that makes the difference. That's why I like about Lee. He took all kinds of crap and still does, but it's not slowed him down one bit. He goes to practice and works with the team just as hard as if he were the starter, and this is a fact. He could have easily transferred to some 1AA school to get away from it all, but he chose to stay and tough it out. This is the kind of mentality teams need. So to answer the original question, no. I don't think the athletes are worried about us too much.
Booing players is bad, for sure. But it happens all over. I've seen "boo-bird" threads on many fan forums. Bama discovered they had a bunch of them when they tanked early in the decade. Auburn has had issues, too. Auburn dean: Students should show support, not boo players | al.com QB Leak Booed in the Swamp. SI: Tennessee Boos not helping recruiting efforts
Thanks, But, I cant help but wonder if the negativity, as well as what J-Lee went through, Nation Wide..... is affecting these guys & their performance. Has it permanently scarred J-Lee? Is JJ scared it will happen to him? Thats a lot of weight to carry, but you guys are right....If you cant take the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you cant overcome that and lead this team to the land of championships, you have no business suiting up! Because there is a youngster behind you who isnt afraid to try.
The fans see something one way and recruits see it in another for the most part. Especially prospects from outside of the state which is the main targets right now because LA is not really producing in-state QBs at this time. You would be surprised at how many prospects like to see fans following the progress of the team and demanding perfection. Great QBs embrace those expectations. Almost every recruit still talks about the atmosphere of Tiger Stadium and our fans as a huge plus regardless of what our fans think. Also, views vary. Where one QB might see concern others see opportunity. Opportunity is what we are pushing hard right now and it can't be debated when you look at the depth chart.
Yeah, these blue chip QBs have been the best athlete in everything their whole lives. They all think they'll come in and be the hero.
I was in our stadium the night the fans booed LSU offense & David Woodley took it, as it was his fault.
well we have Phillip Rivers little brother who committed to us for next year, and if he's anything like his brother his, and from what i read, he's better at this point than his older brother was. i like the way his older brother plays, even though he may seem cocky, he backs it up. so if his little bro has the kind of attitude his older bro has, then i'm feeling really good about our QB future.
