in game 1 i saw many good and bad things. I saw JJ take many more downfield risks, i sawshep make plays , i saw peterson returning like a pro , i saw young talent being played, tyran mathieu looked like a MAN and probably most importantly of all it seems LSU found their clutch gene.... however we had way too many penalties, we gave up waaaay too many yards (granted yates played extremely well) , ours db's did not match the hype in fact they seemed like the weak unit of the team and peterson was so tired from returning that his defence suffered and worst of all we have arguably THE MOST TALENTED OFFENCE and gary crowton manages to find a way to put 300 total yards against a UNC JV defence . Crowtons calls were vanilla and ridley doesn't belong in our runningback lineup much less our token ball carier. i expect murphy to start next week and our offence to hit full throtle the whole way , and for the rest of the season if not....... Gonzalez might be OC for our bowl game
I was tempted to give a decent response until I saw "put 300 total yards against a UNC JV defense" UNC had Very good LB's 1 and 2 deep are VERY GOOD. UNC has a big D line that played good, LSU still got the push. You know, those guys we played would have still played even if all their starters came to play, Just like LSU, they ROTATE!!! I never once considered our backups JV.... it is just ignorance to think they came fielded with 1* players or to think that those guys cant compete.
Kind of stopped reading as soon as I saw Murphy start. He should never be in the game. Ridley did good until he tried to pad his stats at the end and then lost the ball, that is all on him. Other than that, he had some good runs, many of them were made out of nothing. IMHO
I think we saw a lot of improvement and the last quarter really overshadowed it. Our offense is much more efficient, we are more disciplined with getting plays in and being ready. We take care of the football, and the outcome is never in doubt. As a Memphis basketball fan, the end reminded me of the Memphis-Kansas National Championship game where everything had to go wrong to lose. Fortunately for LSU, they survived. I understand (but don't like) what the second half strategy was, and people need to get off the ledge, because we had three drives in the second half, that should have yielded a minimum of 9 points that put the game out of reach. Heck, one field goal would of. But we had a holding call/Ridley fumble, JJ's intentional grounding, and another Ridley fumble when we would have gone to "victory formation" if he had just tucked the ball. If there is something to complain about its the fact that there is a definite "play not to lose" mentality, that Crowton himself basically talked about two weeks ago. That is what concerns me. That being said, I can't argue with the strategy, because there were two times we should have "iced" the game. Plus, everyone seems to be over looking great special teams play. Punting was fantastic, we had great coverage, returns were electric. PP talked about on GameDay how they were prepared by watching film and how the gunner came down the field. That is good prep! Once again, Jasper doesn't clank that one in the first half, game is out of reach. One last point to think about, we are an extremely young team, I look for this year to set up a championship run next year. Next week is the real test. If we sputter against Vandy, like last year, then to me it will be time to be concerned. I don't think that will be the case. Not many SEC teams looked great yesterday, against much more inferior opponents. Usually the greatest improvement is seen from week one to week two. LSU was fortunate to learn valuable lessons but still get the W.
Team Improvement?? What do you think? QB play still inconsistant OL - improvement at times Coaching - Same old stuff ST
I don't know . . . We ran the ball inside and outside including a reverse for a TD. We hit the tight end over the middle repeatedly, we hit the wide receiver long, All three top receivers caught 3 or 4 passes and the three top backs caught 2. We spread the ball around well, I thought. We tried to control the tempo with a ball-control running game, because we will have to do that in the SEC to protect a lead. But the running game was inconsistent and the three fumbles just killed us. Crowton did not fumble. Losing Blackwell on the first play took the O-line out of their comfort zone and I'm still not convinced that Hebert can play OL in this league.
We can't blame turnovers, UNC had two in the first half when we were "playing good" and yeilded nothing from them. We should have put up 44 in the first half alone. We seem to get to 30 and think it is enough, but as we saw again this bend but don't break defense cannot hold a two score lead.
speaking of which, his holding call (was it holding? now im having a blonde moment and cant remember what he was called for) killed a good drive. if blackwell is out for quite a while, we need to find another sub for him. t-bob just wasnt the answer.
Well, they have been saying we have more depth on the O-line this year. Was there no one playing reserve guard? Why did they have to move Hebert from center if we have depth.
