U caught that? :hihi: But in his early years when the team was winning and people tried to say he had some serious issues as a coach, everyone would throw the NC title and his win/loss record out in his defense. Given his strong recruiting, it would've been easy for those who don't know the game to say he was a great coach when others tried to show he left a lot to be desired in many areas. Oh, speaking is communicating and communicating is critical for head coaches so don't dismiss that. If he's perceived as a buffoon he'll be looked at as one with a lot of folk.
Then how does he continue to recruit at such a high level? You think communication plays a part there? You bet your arse it does. Good answer in the other part though. I don't disagree. But you highlighted the part of my post about lumping the two years together. They aren't one year. One was 3-5 in conference, the other 5-3 in conference. One we got blown out of a couple of games, the other we were in every game. In other words, the season after losing our RS Senior QB, AND the friggin' chosen one, we struggled mightily with a freshman QB. Also, we lost our great DC, and didn't replace him with a qualified replacement(s). Last year, we struggled less with a better sophomore QB, but still struggled, and improved with a qualified DC. This year, we'll have a better JUNIOR QB, and also a second season in the qualified DCs system. There will be more improvement. Also, we will be improving on a "horrible" season in which we wound up playing in a New Year's Day Bowl. I only hear those saying we could've had a 7 win season, but never hear anyone say we could've had an 11 win season. BOTH are true. But we had a 9 win season...and all signs point to improvement this season over that. - Do Texas fans point out how Mack Brown almost blew their chance at the NC game with boneheaded clock management??
Not real sure what the 2 of you don't see in this, I guess you have never had to make changes in yourself to become a better person, or are just satisfied with who you are.
The phrase "define yourself" is well known and understood. The phrase "defy yourself" is kind of obscure, that's all.
It's actually from the lyrics to the song "Revolve", but changed a little bit for the purpose of simplification. "A revolution has begun today for me inside The ultimate defense is to pretend Revolve around yourself just like an ordinary man The only other option: to forget Does it feel like we've never been alive? Does it seem like it's only just begun? Defy yourself Just look inside the wreckage of your past To lose it all all you have to do it lie The policy is set and we are never turning back It's time for execution Time to execute It's time for execution Time to execute Does it feel like we've never been alive? Does it seem like it's only just begun? Does it feel like we've never been alive inside? Does it seem like it's only just begun? It's only just begun The evolution is coming A revolution has begun (It has begun) The evolution is coming A revolution has you The evolution is coming A revolution has begun (Has begun) The evolution is coming A revolution has you" It isn't something I just made up, but do feel it speaks volumns to making a change in ones self.
I got it the first time...like deny yourself (and do what's best for the team). Putting the team first and not being so concerned with what's in it for you is something Chris Paul, Lebron James, et al. should be doing.....but aren't.
Squeezing the game out allowed them to get past it real quick! But Miles will always be perceived this way because he does sound borderline retarded in (some)interviews and can't answer questions in a slick manner. That is his cross to bear. Luckily, in person(no microphone) he does not speak that way. And especially not with recruits or their families. It's just an easy thing for rivals and haters to seize on and lump with his actual mistakes(yep, he has them) as evidence that he is an idiot. Dennis Leary once did a bit on how people hate seeing Otters getting killed because they are cute, but when they see a cow, "bam" give me the hamburger! Miles will never be an attractive speaker and that is a major foundation for why he is discredited. If he proceeds to screw the pooch this season and maybe the next and gets fired, then any of his supporters will be forced to admit that he was incompetent. And there would be truth to it. But if(when)) he improves this season and the next, the haters will just continue to discredit him. There is no convincing people who didn't think he was any good even when he was winning a NC. It all started with that damn madonna headset...
It’s sure good to hear that Coach Miles speaks differently when off the air. We all judge people by how they speak, but the way one speaks can be quite deceiving and there are cases where even extreme speech impediments are not at all indicative of what one really is. It’s not football related, but this weekend, I heard a great show on NPR… A profound stutter as a child left Alan Rabinowitz virtually unable to communicate and to prefer animals to people. Now a conservationist of tigers and jaguars, an explorer of the world's last wild places, he has extraordinary insight into both animals and the human condition. Here's the link if you are interested... A Voice for the Animals with Alan Rabinowitz [Speaking of Faith from APM]
I would like to see more discipline this year. Players who are part of a TEAM. Know the play when you break the huddle, then go out and beat your man. If we are behind by 2 touchdowns and you beat your chest like you are some sort of Superman, you don't see the field for a month. It's not about you, it's about LSU!:geaux:
