It was only a few years ago that our AD was apologizing to schools like Auburn & Bama for the behavior of our fans. We were accused of throwing bags of urine, attacking old ladies in wheelchairs, setting vehicles on fire, and giving people cancer by hitting them with footballs. But over the last couple years, I have seen none of it. No one is talking about fan behavior. No one is telling horror stories. In fact, it has been quite the opposite. Fans are talking about how great their experiences have been. After the Bama game, I only saw one instance of bad fan behavior where a guy ran up & flipped off a Bama fan & screamed F**K YOU! in his face before running away. I immediately apologized to the guy & he just laughed it off. Other than that, LSU fans were not gloating, they were not screaming, they were not fighting. They were singing, dancing, and being complimentary of the Alabama team. Is it that I am getting older & not hanging out with the same ne'er do wells that I used to, or have we, as a fanbase, gotten a lot more civil?
Only if you don't find frontrunning to be a negative. I'm personally ashamed at the level of flip-flopping I'm seeing.
There was really only one year with any ugly incidents and it was the Auburn game in 2001. From Wikipedia: The jumping on the eye incident by the Auburn team and the Auburn player coming out and pushing around a trombone player at halftime incited the crowd. A few took out their anger on and got ugly with some innocent Auburn fans after the game and that is where all of the "bad fan behavior" stories came from. There has never been much trouble after that, other than the usual few drunks misbehaving, which happens everywhere.
man i swear i remember hearing something about cars burning down at auburn when lsu was there because someone was lighting the auburn tiger tails on fire that hang off the vehicles. maybe i was dreaming....
Every fan base has their bad fans, us included. Some of it is drunkenness, youthful exuberance, and some are just idiots. During my college days and in the past 20 years since then I've travelled to a lot of college games. The exact same thing plays out almost everywhere. I don't think LSU is at the top or the bottom of the list on bad fan behavior.
I was shocked when I looked at tidefans.com and saw the posts about how gracious LSU fans were and how much fun they had. 4 years ago it was stories of cattle being raped, grandmothers being beaten, and Urine bags being thrown from upper decks. We ALL have our miserable fans. Some more than most, and sadly when we do well we have a group of drunken bandwagoners (See Saints) that are not around unless they are on top. UF has by the highest per capita douchery.... Bama I have always had a good time at as with Ole Miss. I think alot has to do with a an us vs. them mentality. Lets face it Louisiana gets kicked around a great deal, people make fun of our coach, make fun of our culture, people etc. I think that is why we are so defensive and can be a bit over the top.....
It was actually a Chevy van with a huge paper mache tiger tail. Somebody put a match to it. The fire damaged the paint job on the van. A couple of years later it got set afire again at Arkansas. I guess the owner finally figured out how "inflamatory" it was to drive around a rival's campus with a ostentatious rig like that and then leaving it parked nearby. :hihi:
