Yeah, its no longer open to the public as far as I know. But I know when I was still an undergrad in the fall of '04 me and some friends would go before preseason band practice in august and run the stairs at like 630 or 7 in the morning. There were plenty of other people in their walking around the field at the bottom or running the stairs. I never thought of it at the time but I guess there could be a liability issue as well if someone were to get hurt while exercising in there. I know the Army ROTC used to run to the stadium, up the ramps to the east upper deck, up and down the stairs, back down and back to the REC during some PT sessions. (Not me of course, but I had friends in it who are now serving over seas)
I saw every one of those in the LSU Assembly Center in the 73-77 period (it wasn't the PMAC until after Pistol Pete died) plus: Elton John in 1972 -- I was still in high school, we drove down for these concerts Jethro Tull in 1972 The Moody Blues The Doobie Brothers Bob Dylan -- Rolling Thunder Review tour backed by Joan Baez Chicago -- twice The Beach Boys -- backed by an unknown named Billy Joel
Dammit, I thought I had posted this before but I couldn't remember... Thanks KyleK. Now I feel like the drunk at the party that keeps repeating hisself. Old age SUCKS.
:insane:When you are under the bridge it is amazing how much it "bounces" when a truck rolls over. If we lived in BR I'd never mention to my kids that you can climb across the bridge on a catwalk. That had to be one of the stupidest, okay maybe top 10, things I ever did 3 times.
I lived in south stadium in 1979 across the hall were room that had barred windows we found one that was right by a ramp and often snuck in and threw the ball late at night and even went into the golden room occasionally where the liquor was stored for the big wigs. We almost got caught one night when someone noticed and called campus police and we ran into the stands and crawled until we found our window we also on several occasions got paint on us from the field where it was painted.
This thread brought back some memories. Since I live right by campus now, and often right my bike through there, I decided to kinda cruse around the stadium can check out the accessibility now days. If it was ever open to the public it is most definitely not now. I did a pretty close inspection and every gate or entrance was locked or chained. There are also signs by every entrance that say "Not Open To the Public", and "Monitored By Video Surveillance." I did see a few weak points in security so I'm sure you could get in now if you really wanted to. However, it would be really hard to claim "We were just checking out the stadium and wondered in an unlocked door. We didn't know we were not allowed in here." It would definitely be much more of illegal entry and trespassing now. We snuck into the stadium quite a few times when I was in undergrad. First time was in 1995 when we went to the Indy Bowl. We were all camping out for tickets (that's how you did it back then) at the athletic building. There were a bunch of us throwing the football someone said lets go into the stadium. From what I remember we walked right in. We ran around on the field, timed our 40's and kicked FGs. Another time we went up into the old dorms. That was really creepy because they had not been used in like 20 years. No lights, cobwebs, dust an inch thick over everything, and pieces of the ceiling fallen in. We had to get flash lights to even go in because it was so dark. We found one room with a stock pile of old papers. It was crazy. They were all in dusty folders and hand typed. Picture a spy movie with us and our flash lights looking at these files. Then we found this room that looked like it had been some kind of training room way back in the day. Old hospital beds and supplies. Right out of a horror movie.
Once, I got booted out the stadium right after I scanned my ticket due to having alcoholic beverage in my coat. I got turned around and slipped in through the student section via no ticket! Nice Lil Adrenaline Rush!!!
no, but back then i probably could have. i did hang out in one of the old dorm rooms converted to an art studio. those were some dingy old rooms. but fun studio space.
