Omaha has always been on my husbands bucket list. We are trying to make some tenative plans and have found some decent homes for rent at decent prices. My only fear is something will happen (like Stoneybrook) and it won't been near as much fun but if we don't book now rooms, tickets, everything will be harder to find and probably more expensive. Any thoughts?

It's always a gamble. But this team definitely seems like the team to gamble on.

I've been to Omaha--just not for the CWS. I was there on business about a year ago.

Just answering the question posed in the title of the post.

Well then you could say, "Sure, a lot of people have been to Omaha", jackass. :D

Props to this woman for tendin her hubby's needs. I'll forgo the "pics please" since she did mention "bucket list". I'll take that to mean one-piece bathing suit age.

    Regardless, welcome to TF Sandy.

I had friends that went the year Warren Morris hit his HR and they invited me. My parents didn't want me to miss the first few days of summer school at LSU.

My uncle is going for the first time this year. If LSU makes it there, I may need to try to join him & his krewe.

I went in 2000 for the championship game vs stanford. I was in high school at the time, and my mom and I drove up from Kansas City where we lived to Omaha the morning of the championship game. We left at 5am and arrived at rosenblatt around 8. We hopped in the right field general admission line and waited about 5 hours for the gates to open. During that time, my mom went to hunt for general admission tickets, and she found someone who just gave her 2, so we got into the game for free. We enjoyed the game and then drove back that night, getting home around 9pm.

This doesn't answer your logistical questions, but let me encourage you to go if you can. It was an experience that I will never forget.

Although it's much more fun when our Tigers are there, don't let your fear of a letdown disrupt your plans. Omaha is a great town to visit and the atmosphere of the CWS is something to experience. It's even funny on the rare occasion LSU doesn't attend because Tiger fans will still outnumber most of the participating teams.

The new park holds over 25K so it's not hard to get into most games. Just make your plans...and geaux! Let the Tigers take care of business on the field and just plan for a long week of baseball and fun. I'm not knocking football and basketball fans but the quality and knowledge of college baseball fans is hard to beat. You won't see anyone "thuggin' out" or trying to start a fight. It's more of a family atmosphere where people truly love their team and the game. You often find yourself rooting for another team (unless they play the Tigers :) ) or tailgating with other fans.

My first experience was in 1992. We won it all in '91 and '93 so it would seem my timing was horrible. As much as I missed the Tigers it was a great experience and had me sold on the CWS. It comes down to this...if you want to attend the CWS, there has to be a first time. Just do it and let the cards fall where they may!

I had some friends that would go every year and they told me Omaha loves LSU/LSU fans.

I know these guys would cook huge meals in the parking lot to give out. One evening would be like 15 lbs of crawfish etoufee', and stuff like that. They told me there was some bar that was plastered with LSU stuff everywhere inside.

I have been going there for years. Rosenblatt Stadium was classic and I always got chills walking up the hill to get there. That said, the new stadium is much nicer and more comfortable. Most of the traditions of the CWS carried over to the new park. The CWS is a must for any college baseball fan. Go once and you will not want to stop going. I have been there when the Tigers were there and lost. I've been there when they won some and i've been there when they won it all. I've also bee there when they weren't there. Even when the Tigers weren't there, Tiger fans were there in mass. We always outnumber other fans even when our team is not there. In some cases, like UCLA, I think all of their fans came in the same car. There is no doubt the stadium comes alive when the Tigers are there. If they are not there, Tiger fans are more quiet, but always sporting the purple and gold. The citizens of Omaha treat LSU fans like celebrities and go out of their way to tell you how much they love it when LSU makes it to Omaha. We even got flagged down for a interview with a local TV station last year just because we were wearing LSU purple and Gold. If you can get a room at one of the hotels across the street, it is worth the premium rate. Try Holiday Inn or Hampton o Cuming Street.
