If you remember the parking lot created by Rita evacuations and the flooding of Houston during rush hour with Allison, you understand why no evacuation order was made. They wouldn't have gotten out in time and people would have drowned in their cars. Over a trillion gallons of water was dumped on the Houston area. They did the right thing

I got 25 here. Thankfully we have good drainage

Sad isn't it? The way the so called leaders of New Orleans have failed in their job is disgusting. Not just little moon but all of them from Vic "don't believe any rumors till you hear them from me" Schiro on. This includes the school board and other leaders who have damned the future with corruption and the prejudice of low expectations. These kids and so many who came before deserved better.

last night i got a call from my son (who lives in North Louisiana) stating that his future in-laws house was flooding in Kingwood. I have a 4x4 f250 and he asked that i go them and bring them to a family member in College Station.

Their story is a good example of how people were caught unprepared. First their house has never flooded, not for allyson nor ike. On Saturday they lost power and then cell coverage was intermittent at best. They were getting conflicting statement about Lake Houston from the little information they had. On Monday they started moving belongings up stairs, at about midnight they went to sleep and awoke at 2 am to water over their cars. within the next hour water was coming into the house. Their house was about 4 feet up from the road so that gives you an idea as to how fast the water rose. They ended up having to be saved by boat.

So its very easy to criticize these people for not leaving but this storm was just not on par with anything we have seen before. And with the family i went get yesterday there was literally no way for them to know what was happening in their immediate surroundings.

Dude, schools do more today than ever. When kids go to school not knowing if there will be food, or parents, when they get home, their survival needs trump long term goals. See Maslow

but this is part of the problem we no longer hold people accountable to take care of their own shit. Schools should not be mommy and daddy

    So we are in agreement.

And make no mistake, it is THE problem.

How close do you live to College Station? I am figuring not too far given your proximity to Houston and the amt of rain you reported. I work at BSW Hospital there
