I was pleased to see many LSU players playing better football last night. I thought the team in general looked athletic and showed some growth. However, I was disappointed that Harris did not play. I personally would have liked to see him start and play most of the game, for the following reasons: It appears Harris is more talented After a gracious opportunity, Jennings failed to win the job Harris needs to play as much as possible so that he is not the less experienced, but more talented, QB again next year I can't imagine it is good for a QB's psyche to make one start and not only lose the starting job, but not even see the field in the next game I assume the notion was that Florida was weak and gave us an opportunity to win with extremely conservative play calling, and the coaches felt like this team needed this particular first SEC win more than anything. If that is so, I suppose I can understand the decision. I just hope we don't continue down this road. Harris needs to get better, and he needs all the snaps he can get in order to do it. This team won't thrive with Jennings at QB. We need to know before next year whether Harris can be the man.
Harris is just not ready to start. Did the AU game show you nothing? At what point last night would you have put him in the game? He is likely the more talented QB, but he needs more time to absorb the college game; Jennings does, too.
I think you are wrong with all due respect and I'll tell you why. I think the coaches wanted to put in Harris but the situation didn't present itself. Harris definitely is the better athlete and physical specimen. He can run fast and throw hard. But he is as green as the finest nugs on earth. Before today, Anthony Jennings had made 1 SEC start, at home against Mississippi State. Harris' first SEC start was @ Auburn, neither one of them played particularly well in those starts. So Jennings gets the start on the road against Florida. If LSU would have jumped up to a touchdown or 2, you would have seen Harris coming in to spell Jennings every now and then. But LSU got behind and there were situations where we needed the more polished guy in the game, not the guy who is extremely green. I completely think that if Brandon Harris is the stud QB everyone says he's gonna be then at the start of next season you will see Brandon Harris as the starting quarterback, unless something just clicks with Jennings and he starts tearing it up. And hey, if that happens then it's moot because we have our QB.
As I stated, I would have started him. If you believe he is more talented and they both need time, why would you elect to give that time to the less talented QB?
Because he kept his composure better at AU? Why would you start him? Wouldn't his psyche be more damaged if he went out and had a bad outing again? Here's another question: why do we always love our back-up QBs? We have for as long as I can remember. People used to scream for Mickey Guidry to play when freakin' Tommy Hodson was under center. Seriously.
I completely agree. Of the two, Jennings was the better choice as the starter. The coaches have to protect Harris and not throw him to the wolves again after the shellshocking experience at Auburn. Harris has got to have a better grasp of the playbook, not to mention learning to read the defence. Hope he gets the chance to come into the games , like Perrilloux/Flynn , to gain valuable game exposure, although it is going to be tough to find the right opportunity to insert him in the upcoming series of tough SEC games. Kind of a catch 22 situation; and yes, he prob will be the future LSU QB once he matures.
I mentioned it before the game but I think Harris is still hurt and needed another game to rest that ankle. He was in a walking boot for a few days.
Hey, for the record, that is exactly why I said I didn't want to start Harris at the barn. The potential for things to go south fast were just too great and then what?
