I agree he is improved, I'm not so sure how much coaching has to do with it, especially when they look so clueless on how to help him during the game.
Harris should have seen more time in the latter half of last season for sure, I just scratch my head. Jennings threw more and had less game time in those 3 games than Harris has had in his 3. Jennings while only really playing 2 full games of those 3 had 10 more attempts. Granted in 2 LSU was behind and this year Fournette is running like a Mack truck. I just think that the coaching staff really needs to give Harris more opportunities but I can't say I blame them for not doing so in this game because of Fournette. Hopefully, the next few games against the Kentucky and Michigan teams will allow him that chance.
Not only the percentages but the eye test shows Harris is better in every phase of quarterbacking. He sees the field better, makes better decisions and you can see he is much more accurate than last year. The game has slowed down for him.
How much of that is due to the fact that he has played with a lead in every game, and has the beast running the rock? Also, doesn't seem like he is on a leash like I thought he would be.
For sure. Jennings can't throw while rolling to one side or the other. Hell, he struggled with swing passes.
Harris has had some trouble throwing those swing passes too, but the difference I really see is like you said, his ability to throw on the run, his running ability, and his accuracy and arm strength on those out routes.
No, and that's not what I'm getting at. I think Harris is the guy and I wouldn't yank him unless he got hurt. He has more poise, he looks more comfortable, he has a stronger more accurate arm, he can just do more. The point I was trying to make is that our offense kind of makes our qb's look similar on the stat line.
His decision making and poise is night and day better, but his accuracy, touch and timing still leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully that will come with time and reps. Unfortunately depending on the run heavily in the cream puff games could slow that progress. Will Miles cut him loose some? I have no problem with the amount of passes against Syracuse, but the staff could have helped him greatly with more quick short timing throws and maybe a few to that guy Miles calls a 3rd tackle but other teams call a TE.
We have a TE in Jacory Washington that is basically a receiver and he will never see the field this year.
