Miss St. has a decent D this year, but they're still lacking in a solid definsive backfield. I liked the win tonight and we should've done more in the redzone, but we converted a ton of 3rd downs, and that's a good thing. The D-Line looked better tonight and more tackles were made, which improved the D in a huge way. We didn't give up a ton of 3rd down conversions on the defensive side of the ball, either. I hated all the screens and runs up the gut. Charles Scott is a great athelete, but just can't seem to hit a hole. Hopefully when we see Georgia, we'll be rolling :geauxtige:LSU231::geaux::LSU231::geauxtige
all true Vandy helped our D with at least 3 dropped passes at bad times. We didnt stop their run until 2nd half and usually it was situational. without the Vandy Mistakes I couldnt say how it woulda went i dont want to post anything negative the nut huggers wont like it lol maybe we can improve VASTLY before any more conference play.
Richard Murphy fell awkwardly, and while the landing didn't seem bad, he immediately grabbed his knee. He was on the field for a little while and had to get help getting off of the field. I hope he's okay, but it didn't look good. In the little bit that he played, I thought he played well.
And NO INTERCEPTIONS (and JJ threw 29 passes today). As for J-Lee, he completed 100% of his passes today (just 1 of 1). As for Shep, he had 3 rushes for 26 yards (8.7 YPC).
I am very happy to get a quality win over a quality opponent in such sloppy conditions....and it was sloppy....i was there. There is still much room for improvement on both sides of the ball. The O-Line needs to do a better job of protecting JJ and open up more holes for Scott. The D-Line needs to get more pressure on opposing QB's. Overall, the defense looked much better in this game....especially the 2nd half. Keiland Williams looked very good for the second game in a row. JJ took what the defense was giving and didn't turn the ball over. This very young and talented team will continue to improve with more experience, and with a little luck, could be in the hunt for the SEC title and BCS. :crystal::crystal::crystal:
JJ checked into short passes most of the night, but it was wet and so I don't fault him. I will say one play in particular I was struck how he turned his head, went through his progression, and got the ball off in five steps- and Sheppard then fumbled the reception. Other than that, a beautiful play. Basically, I was seeing him still as the diamond in the rough he is. Can't wait to see what he can do with some more starts under his belt!
