I thought JJ did amazing for a soph in his first few starts. didn't make any big mistakes.... especially considering he didn't have much time to make a decision. both o-line and d-line could use some work, but as others said... a win is a win. Hopefully things will gel soon...
A good solid win. The final score doesn't really tell the whole story. Need to work on red zone offense, 3 FG's after being inside the 10 kinda sucks. Very happy given the conditions.
Forgot to mention Shepard; his debut performance was impressive. He sure can fly, and make tacklers miss him with his elusiveness.
LOL...last week it was the defense and this week it will be the offense! ' Relax, guys. We racked up 330 yards and 22 first downs in SLOPPY conditions. The defense is definitely getting better, and we have a confidence-building game ahead of us for the offense to learn what it's all about before facing our first "good" defense in Miss. State. We'll be clicking by UGA...just watch.
I'm happy with the win. D looked improved. JJ definitely has trouble with deep passes as obvious by the fact that out of the 4 he attempted 1 was short, 2 were over thrown, and 1 was a pick that got called back due to a hold. My biggest concern after the game however is how our O Line seems to not be able to provide anything. No run blocking up the middle and definitely not any pass blocking. JJ was rushed the entire night and I'm certain some of his passing woes would improve if he could actually take his time. Vanderbilt for the large portion of the night was rushing 3 and still getting penetration on our front line on nearly every play.
The ONLY time I held my breath during this game was when J Lee went in for Jefferson. He did not let us down, thank God. I think we've got alot of improvement, but we've got 2 games to do it. If there's not ALOT of improvement on both sides of the ball, we'll be looking for a bowl other than for the crystal. Jefferson is GREEN. Hopefully, he'll get better. Obviously, he takes good direction from the coaching staff. We need more "down the field" plays. Coaches didn't call it. Maybe due to the weather, maybe more than that. Overall, I'm a little disappointed, but not overly so. 2 more weeks to get ready for some "real" football. :geaux:
Agreed with everything you've said. :thumb: Since you mentioned Miss State I will go on record as saying that Miss St scares me for the first time in....ugh....decades. They have a stout defense and are gong to a spread offense--and offense that has historically given us troubles.
I agree, but I just can't help but think that a defense like Florida's is going to eat our o-line alive, and any half decent QB will slice LSU up if they don't fix the pass coverage. That QB was garbage and a lot of guys dropped passes they should have caught. LSU is also giving up a lot of yards on the ground in large chunks. With that said, I don't think we'll get a true idea of what kind of team LSU is until the UGA game. Keiland needs to start and get more carries. They seemed to stop running him in the second half until the end. I don't know what happened to Scott, but he seems to have lost that power (3.8 ypc). He looks mediocre. Our WRs are solid, even the nobodies. JJ played well, but was always under pressure. He looked frustrated.
