I am happy with the win but our offense is going to have to get better. We are going to have to throw down the field eventually. Bama and Ole Piss will stack the line with better athletes and shut us down. Jefferson is still green at QB. Defense played a good game and a good second half. Good to see us getting some pressure on the qb. I think our wide receivers did a good job catching. Would like to see them hold their blocks a touch better. On a wet field i will take this win and be happy. Lets keep piling up the wins and getting better.
I think Jefferson is still learning but you could tell the weather (rain & wind) affected the play calling. At least I thought it did. I think the Defense did better but I still think we are giving too much up on the ground, bu again, that could be attributed to their use of the no huddle and a slippery QB. But our young guys are going to have to learn to not be so gung ho on chasing down from the backside on the option read. Edit: I am happy with the win. Any win is a good win in my opinion.
Definite improvement over last week on D. The O will come around. We're still not going to show everything, especially on a wet field. Good to see Shepard get some touches. JJ doing a decent job managing the game. :geauxtige
Jefferson completed 69% of his passes. Granted most were very short routes.. but that's nice to see. He didn't go off.. but it's nice to see that he's excellent at taking what is given to him.
Ugly win but a win is a win. Ill take an ugly win over a close loss any day. yes if we dont improve both offensively and defensively some teams ( unamed ) are going to clean our clocks. BUT we will improve by then....... thats what I'm banking on.
:geaux: Thought the "O" did a good job for three qtrs., we won't mention the 3rd qtr at all. OL will need to improve each week and I believe they will. Rcvrs did a good job and so did KW. Scott needs to look for the holes/daylight a little better. He seems to just run in to the pile too often tonight. JJ is still learning and it shows at times. Great to see Shep out there tonight! He is exciting and I'm going to enjoy seeing him play in Tiger Stadium the next 3 or 4 years! The "D" make improvement over last week and I think the Chief will continue to make them better. Good win over a quality Vandy team.:thumb: :LSU231:
yeah, defense looked better in the 2nd half, and played well. keiland williams has turned into the guy he was recruited to be, very impressed with keiland. jefferson, don't know if he is the guy that can bring us back from behind just yet, but i feel safe with him with the lead. he spread the ball out nice, but like the previous post said, has a little trouble throwing downfield, but i don't know if that is him, or the coaches telling him to take the short route when its open. i like what i saw with the playcalling in the first half, 5 wide was used more than i have ever seen us use it before. 4th quarter we kind of just shut the offense down, with the rain, and a young quarterback, and a pretty good vanderbilt defense, i am ok with shutting the offense down and working the clock to just get the W and prepare for next week. It was nice to see Shep get in the game, he looked like he is going to be really special, he had the fumble but he was trying to make something happen. all in all, i am happy with this win also being the conditions were, what they were. Jefferson is still obviously a diamond in the rough, but he is progressing. :geauxtige:geauxtige
I was very happy. Vandy is a good team. PLus it was wet. there will always be negative people, but D looked so much better tonight...
I am very glad Jefferson and the offensive line had to face a good defense like Vanderbilt's . Lots of invaluable experience for their growth. Seems like the Vanderbilt D was able to get to Jefferson a lot: what's the problem with pass protection??? Very pleased with Jefferson not pressing to the extent of throwing picks. Keiland looked quite good and much improved with his running; seems to be more in the attack mode and able to make people miss. This is going to be his breakout season. Good learning experience for the defense having to deal with a more open offense and a running QB. Overall, very glad they did not play against a cupcake team as the second game in the season. They needed this type of game to grow.
Vandy is not the pushover they used to be. Gotta give them some credit for keeping it close. :geauxtige
