I think the caller meant he would like an offense coordinator half as good as Chevis is as a defensive coordinator. Really though Crowton stinks, he is one demensional. He wants to run the offense one way and it hasnt been working with JJ as QB. As a coach you need to play to your strengths which he is not doing well. The numbers don't lie. Our offense could be so much better.
Here's the problem. Crowton is also the QB coach. The person responsible for making sure he has thet experienced QB to run that cluster of an offense is Gary Crowton. The quality of athletes also plays into that, of course. Jefferson's ceiling may have been naturally low with the mental aspect of the game, but Lee has the raw ability that's just begging to be forged into something good. Crowton has quite the history of turning QBs into mental cases, according to our friends at BYU. If Crowton can come up with a game plan to put up points on Bama, then I may change my mind about him, but the evidence strongly indicates that the vast majority of our offensive problems start with him.
I have to believe it works like every team or business for that matter. It's the staffs collective decision sighed off by Miles. Crowton meets with his staff, they discuss gameplan, and come up with their strategy. Miles meets with his coordinators, they discuss said strategy, modify as necessary and move forward. I really hope these coaches are not operating in silos making decisions. I would love for them to do an episode of ESPNU All-Access on LSU to see the coaching dynamic.
