In a game that could be characterized as ultra conservative offensive play calling, the 1st and 10 from the 5 after the Mathieu penalty on special teams comes to mind as the exception.

We play action faked and threw a first down pass to our blocking TE for a 14 yard gain.

We appeared destined to go 3 and out and had we punted there, who knows.

We end up getting the ball all the way to midfield before we punted and put the game in OT.

Playcalling was the worst of the year. Horrible. Les left his lesticles at home in his wife's purse tonight. Glad to get the W despite the bad playcalling.

Maybe so. Good enough to win, though, wasn't it?

I disagree, sometimes you gotta give the other team some credit.
We tried play action quite a few times the second half but had no separation.
The only play that worked on offense was the option. Once Bama adjusted the second half JJ paid the price on that first drive of the half. It was a tough game, our playcalling was conservative at times but they tried to open it up the second half, it just didn't work.

I think some of what looked liked bad calls were actually due to the pass coverage. Every time the receivers were shown, there was nowhere to throw the ball.

I don't see it that way at all. Again, this game was a defensive gem. NEITHER team could do what they wanted offensively tonight. It is that simple. These defenses are absolute beasts and probably unstoppable, except against each other.

Credit Alabama for what they did tonight on defense. Very solid. They gave up 2 big plays, both of which only cost them 2 FGs, but that was enough. First play was long Jordan pass late in first half. Second was the Ford TD run where he was stopped by stepping out of bounds, but setting up the GW FG.

There were some 2nd and shorts, 3rd and shorts where they were stacking the box and it would have been perfect time to take a shot. I think we could have played a little more aggressive and not have the win come down to OT. Glad to see the win.

This may be a little OT, but I didn't want to start a new thread just to post it. We had 148 yards rushing (to 96, which included an 18 yard run by TR on the first play of the game) on team only giving up something like 50 a game? We can run on that team, we can run on anybody.

So true. Reminded me of the 7-3 loss to AU in 2006. It's one thing to be conservative, but we were predictable and had no imagination. I thought coming off the bye, we'd see a few new plays, but nada. That was the only thing I was disappointed in tonight, but the W makes it all go away.

Possibly right. hard to tell on TV. We had been mostly ineffective all night passing the ball, but I also felt like LSU needed to take some more shots or go up top. From the looks of things, it just wasn't there. Sure, Lee threw into coverage and was picked, but if you look at those plays, those guys were covered and Lee shouldn't have thrown the ball. What does he do? Does he have time for an outlet? Not so much. Run the ball? Nah. Eat it? Maybe, or just throw it away obviously. I don't know. I don't think I'm in a good position to bag on anything tonight. That game was a war. That's all.
