I'm rightfully getting some flack for my post (made while nursing a bit of a hangover). I am not saying at all that I would be less than elated if he decided to come to LSU. I think he'd be a great addition to the team. All I am saying is basically 2 things: 1. It's not the end of the world if he decided to go elsewhere, and I wouldn't lose sleep over it if he opted to not come here. 2. I want all of our recruits to make an informed decision and not regret their decision at a later date and wind up leaving the team. With in-state kids I think that risk is less as many of them grew up dreaming about playing for LSU for a long time. With "out of state" kids this is a bigger risk - especially when the realization sinks in that their family and friends are no longer nearby. Notre Dame is a 3 hour drive from Indianapolis, Vanderbilt is a 5 hour drive from Indianapolis, and LSU is just under a 14 hour drive to Indianapolis. I agree with your sentiment that you'd take great players regardless of where they come from. It's a testament to the program and the coaching staff that we went from "longshot at best" status to one of the 3 finalists he is considering.
This, if you follow our current players on tweeter you will find one common thread between all the OOS guys. They are always talking about how much they miss home, and their mommas, and this and that. In the long run they will hopefully look back and have no regrets, in the now, they are kids and moving that far away is a really big step. Not all are equiped between the ears to handle it. I'm sure this guy is though. :geaux:
There seems to be a lot of smoke and sources coming out saying it will be LSU and should be announced today or tomorrow. Seems like he hasn't been thrilled with ND and communication was lacking right after his official visit there and then had a short in-home with Coach Kelly. That is why Vandy started gaining ground as well given it isn't too much further from his home.
Was LSUFreek just a guy on a message board doing funny gifs and now he's a legitimate college football columnist/reporter? If so, that's very cool. edit: Oh and it's kick ass that we have a good shot at this kid.
