Not sure everyone yet realizes how important this pickup is for the future. This will be key down the line even just for depth. However, considering this guys potential, this is huge. He and Rivers will be the first two QBs that can come in as freshmen and not be thrown into the fire within their first two years. They can be properly groomed by Kragthrope from the start. The gravity of the situation may fall short on some, but this is great for our future. Some people are selling Rivers short too soon. Word is hes working extremely hard and will be a capable backup next year. We should be grateful for depth, and support whoever starts. Lee proves how important having depth at the QB position is. Can you image had he transferred when the vast majority wanted him to? Perriloux/follow up recruiting created a QB gap. Lee IMO would have possibly been an all time great under the right circumstances and tutelage, but was thrown into the fire before his time, and Crowton was not a capable teacher. Jefferson also didnt have a great teacher, and had to start his career too soon. Garrett left, Zach Lee left, and Mett obviously had 3 to play 3. With those QB woes, we should all appreciate how important this pull was, and hope that the bright looking future for QBS stays its course
I'd like to add on to your post. Every point you hit is right on the money, but having this quaterback depth does more than just keep us set a QB. Having a verbal from the number 1 QB in the nation is huge, and we'll really open up recruiting at other offensive positions. A lot of future WR's will want to catch passes from him. A lot of highly rated linemen will want to block for him, because they know he increases their chances of going pro. We're set at RB for a long time, but having this much talent will go a long way in the near and distant future. This pickup is huge on so many levels
Great point. Every kid chooses a school for different reasons. Most like to play at a big school with good exposure and near home. Others treat it business like, others pick with the heart, or where they feel comfortable. For the prospects that take the more business like approach it certainly looks good on paper to have received a commitment and pending signature from the number one QB recruit. But more towards what you stated, the Wide Outs and other guys on offense certainly draw confidence when you can look ahead and have talented depth in such an important position. Of course we all know, you cannot truthfully judge the talent of classes until a few years on campus at the soonest. Momentum in certainly the name of the game both on the field and on the recruiting battlefield. We are fortunate to be on the winning side of both
And Cam Newton and RGIII have shown it only takes one great year to set up your future. QBs can afford to sit and learn for a few years.
Writeup on how he looked during practice for the US Army All-American game coming up this week. "Kiel looked relaxed and comfortable in the pocket, saw the field well and delivered the ball quickly and accurately for the most part. His ability to see downfield and make the right read was impressive. On one particular play, he put the ball exactly where it had to be, hitting Devin Fuller on a touchdown pass that he floated over the cornerback and away from the safety. While most quarterbacks struggle with timing and getting used to so many new players, Kiel adjusted quicker than most and initially lived up to his billing as the nation's No. 1 pro-style quarterback."
Bhelm, rumors are that Gunner did not make it to campus for classes and that he flipped back to ND, any truth to this? LSU Guys: Gunner
He wouldn't have to be on campus today. Classes start tomorrow and there is still like a 2 week window to start classes. Final date is the last add day on the school calendar. Not sure if he is on campus or planning to be here tomorrow. Will look into it.
First thing I thought of when I was watching the NC game is I hope this game doesn't change Gunner's mind.
He was all LSU even after the game. The only thing I would worry about is the pressure to stay close to home. I hear his brother is transferring from Indiana now. I hope ND didn't make some proposal.
